i'm old enough to remember Top Gear with William Woollard and Noel Edmonds pontificating on how great all these dodgy old rust-buckets from British Leyland were!!!
New Top Gear was a breath of fresh air - it has diminished somewhat in the last few seasons - getting a bit gimmicky and crowd-pleasing - none the less - its still easily the best car show on the box - and they review and test honestly.
Fifth Gear is good- but would they be critical of a car that was being advertised in the break of their show? (edit it or lose the ad revenue....click)
the army thing i presume, was filmed months ago - and i reckon JC, JM and RH with the producers, love to show the forces in a good light - plus, they've got all the best toys so i don't think its any more than that

p.s. both me and the mrs were gutted about the Evo - but if it was getting destroyed anyway - at least it went out in style
