They didnt land on the moon,it was a film set in LA,thought eveyone knew that. ::)
 :D ;D
WARNING!!!! can of debate worms about to be opened ::)

How can anyone believe they landed on the moon in that bacofoil and sheet metal charabanc ?

I would love to be proven wrong. It's one of the first things I remember watching on TV (I was 5 years old), but just look at it. It's not even as believable as something Gerry Anderson would have built.
I don't think they could do it these days either.

Agreed  :y

As I understand it the Americans would have done ANYTHING to be first there, including staging it in a hollywood basement!  :y

:( Thought we were going to see proof then. Instead we got the usual "Maybe due to" "Possibly caused by"..."Sometimes happens" answers that we've had before.

I really would be happy to see it proven true, in fact, I'd be over the moon  :D

(not meant as doubting Sir Patrick, he's just asking the questions.)

Of course they landed on the moon!

The sad thing is that its 40 years since we were on our way (it was launched on the 16th we didn't get there until the 20th) and we have not been back since 1972.

I guess the night life must have been shite!

We've seen amazing images of stars and galaxies millions of light years away, yet that is the best they can do of "something" apparently on the surface of the moon.  :-?

Yes because that is due to that "something", the Lunar landing unit, being like a needle on the surface of the moon, with the shadows of it the main feature.

But the stars can be hundreds of thousands miles wide and the galaxies millions / billions of miles in size.  With the Hubble telescope these can be readily seen ;) ;)

..and millions of light years away.

The LRO's primary mission orbit in August will be 31 miles above the surface of the moon.
So we can all look forward to even be able see the stitching on the flag at that range. Unless it's blown away.
Well, it did look a bit windy the way it was flapping about in the footage I've seen. ;)

How right you are Turk, with just one light year being 9.5 million million killometers or about 6 million million miles, the speed of a ray of light in one year ;) ;)

Extreme distances that will take at least a warp driven Star Ship Enterprise to transverse in a life time of a human 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-).

Talking of Hubble... why does it not give us pictures of the footprints on the moon, and perhaps a pile of poo behind a nearby rock?  Oh, and a discarded crisp packet?

Conspiracy theory starting to seem realistic!

Caption for OP picture?  "Okay guys, un-hide the door!" ;D

Because Hubble is just not powerful enough to do that, but can give wonderful views of space features thousands of light years across :y :y :y.

But, as Martin Imber's link to the BBC report reveals, a Lunar space craft in close orbit CAN pick up the 1969 landing site ;) ;)

...........and I am convinced the Americans DID land astronauts on the moon and it was a tremendous achievement, which involved not just one, but many Apollo missions.

In addition any deception would have taken one hell of a 'cover up' involving thousands of people, along with the Russians.  They would have been the first to expose it, as do not forget the Russions had Lunik probes 1 - 3 circling the moon to gather information in 1959, before in 1966 they successfully landed Lunik 9 onto the surface of the moon to take samples as to the consistency of the surface.

Any subsequent "trick" by the Americans would have been quickly spotted by the very competitive USSR and exposed to the World.  However, they no doubt witnessed the American landings via their Lunik space craft and, with much dismay, had to admit they had been beaten in landing a man on the moon.  Any chance to belittle the USA would have been taken then, or since, but the USSR simply could not. The facts, even to the USSR in the midst of the cold war (the Cuban missile crisis had only been 7 years before), could not be disputed then, nor now. ;) ;) ;)
