This is all getting far too complicated for me.

Simply then, if they didnt want it recording then they should have coded it accordingly.  I still have loads of Videos recorded over the years that I can go pick up and slot in a machine to watch when ever I choose.  I dont copy to sell or give away, all recordings are there just purely for the mood I am in and whatI choose to watch at the time.

I cant understand why I pay £12+ a month for a "Licence" to watch such things, then £21 per month to the likes of Sky.  They then give me the access and facilities to record it and view to suit myself, so as long as I dont brak copyright or recording rules then surely why should there be a problem how/where I back it up till I get round to watching it.

Still confused and now have headache. :-/
As said, headaches come with the territory.

I guess that if you did copy the programme onto your pc you would have to copy it back to an authorised de-cryption device (like your Sky box) to view it "when you get round to watching it".

What you MIGHT be able to do is swap the HDD in the Sky box for a bigger one so that you don't need to swap the programmes off. You can do this on some PVRs but I think Sky are a law unto themselves.

....very popular upgrade at the moment Chris, a lot of people are going for a 1Tb drive...

The total size of the disc (in the HD box) should be 300Gb but Sky only allocate around 160 Gb of that for subscriber recording, the remainder is allocated by Sky to their Anytime service where they download a selection of programmes they think might be interesting - generally during the night.

Although you can run the box with Anytime turned off, you can't increase the disc size by re-formatting it as they will always default to the factory setting.

If you install a larger disc, which is quite easy to do, there will always be around 140Gb of it allocated to Anytime.

is there a standard Pin code for HD recordings.  Manual says it's on the terms and conditions, but I cant find one anywhere.

TIA.   :y

....have had a Thompson from the get go.  Changed the psu when it (box) started to play up a few months ago - no trouble since :y

If I were changing I would have the Pace - more for the better internal lay-out than anything else, the disc carrier being located well away from the system board. :y :y
