Firstly, Auto Addict & your comments on sweary telly. You began with "Are you saying?" This is how wives argue with thier husbands as in "What's that supposed to mean?" It means what i said & if you read the post carefully i said telly is full of swearing, sex, drugs & violence which it is. I was merely making a valid point & never said i approved so don't put words into my mouth.
We have never effe'd & geffe'd freely on here & i'm not suggesting we do. Up til now we've been happy to say break or add an asteric...* to get a point across & has been fine for the 2 years i've been here & i've adhered to the rule. Now we must'nt do that either???? I always accepted that as a fair comprimise, some middle ground.
Once again i hear the old chestnut :- this is a car forum. If you want it that cold & clinical get rid of the general chat so you can all wear your anoraks & talk about Omegas & nothing else. If that's all anyone wants in life then i feel sorry for you, as admins you put gen disc in so it's of your own doing...if you want a car only forum then i dare you to delete general discussion, go on do it...if not stop whinging. >:(

Come on, don't dare the admin team! You'll only end up spoiling it for the rest of us!
Swearing is always going to be controversial, we all just need to agree to differ and respect the rules of OUR site! :y

just cos swearing is all around us does not mean it has to be accepted here
its their forum so its only fair we respect their rules

every second word out my mouth is a swear word but i respect the rules.

Try not to swear.... fair play !.

It's a subject whereby its obvisouly offended some people of lately, hence why the subject has cropped up in a thread to all.

And I've propably been guilty of a little swearing by changing a few letters etc.  And okay so from now on I'll moderate my responses before I post them.  So hopefully I won't inadvertantly offend anyone else in future.

Problem is though, as in life, what's okay & accepable for one person, is unacceptable for someone else - Where does it end, and how do you start to implementing guildlines, because regarding them as to what is okay, what isn't due to each individual person reading is going to be difficult ?.

Yes there are 'moderators' on here to moderate, but I think one of the worries that people have is that is it going to start to feel like a 'big brother' on here if we have to start getting in line with 'draconian measures', which obviously could put people off, and then they leave.

We're all adults on here, and I think that if something is bothering you that you have a right to say on here that it has.  However, like it has been pointed out, it isn't like you're chatting to an individual (unless PM's of course).
You're have right if your offended to say about it, but let's be honest about it, this is an open forum, and offending will happen on here every now and then, unless every post is screened before being posted, and let's face it, that's not going to happen.
And here's where problems will exist, no matter how good the 'moderators' / owners are at trying their best to keep all happy (don't probably get thanked enough by us all), there's going to be issues amongst us from time to time.

Like to think that we all have some sensibility on here, and we try to respect all.  And I for one will try not to 'directly' offened anyone if I can, but I know that I may have already upset one or two 'indirectly'.

As for advitars, that's another area that's difficult to rule on what is okay & what isn't ?.  There are some personal advitars that are on here that I don't personally like, but it's that persons choice to use that one, and I can ignore them if it's going to bother me that much.  But then that's me, I can.

Let's face it, humour on here is a difficult one to judge, as in written form it doesn't always translate well !.

So.... where do we go from here on then ....?.

I'm sure this is one thread that will go on for some time yet (unless it's locked).  Would be interesting reading other comments on here ?.

One last thing, if I have upset anyone with some slight swaring, then I appolgise to you public here on the forum, and will be aware of trying not to in future.  But like I've said, we're all different, and we're all human (regarding me - just !).

Hi Albs & LLjay. There is no need for the c word. I may have used it posting a joke with a* but agreed i probably should'nt have, fair go as it is unsuitable, but to stop it altogether is too much.
Once again whist i agree there should be standards we should all adhere to let's not spoil a sucessful forum by over policing it. ::)
