Just necked a Ginsters not 15m ago.

I reckon Ginsters are the best of the branded, packaged ones.  Obviously, you can't beat the real thing.  My favourite is Philps in Hayle.  Ann's pasty shop at The Lizard is too variable - sometimes lovely, sometimes poor.

Don't mind what goes in them, but they should ban that horrible Ginsters pastry that crumbles all over the place and tastes like cardboard.

Fine to have flaky pastry if it's eaten hot and fresh. Shortcrust if it's going to be out of a packet IMHO.

Worryingly informative.... :o :o :D :D

Rowes are quite good, Falmouth pasty co were good until they went belly up, my mums are good, Annes are quite good when I have found them open - their shop is a few houses away from where my Dad grew up.

Pork Farms are inedible

Ginsters are best of mass produced ones

Stardate 1978 Barnstaple North Devon. Pop to local little old lady Pasty Shop for usual fantastic lunchtime traditional pasty, family shop renowned in the town for 100 years.

Find a small crowd, the door of the shop is sealed with tape, a notice from Council says closed by order of Health Inspector.

Read in a paper next day that the kitchen was inspected for first time ever and premises were immediately closed. Ill spare you the gory details but suffice to say there were many very green faces in town, mine included.   [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]

When down there on business from Bristol I used to buy a box load of there pasties and freeze them down for future family meals.  Never queit the same as eating fresh and piping hot, but still beat the other lousy so called pasties hands down!! :D :D ;) ;)

Corned beef hash - yum!
I also like sausage and bean pasties and salmon pasties!

Can't think of anything that shouldn't be in a pasty to be honest!

Never considered a Salmon pastie before, but the Sausage and  beans sounds nice.
 :P :P :P

Sausage and beans are made by Greggs and Sayers around here!
The salmon ones are from 'The cornish pasty co.' and are salmon and broccoli in a hollandaise type sauce.......yummy! :y

I'm too fat to eat pasties. :'( :'( :'(

I weaken about twice a year.  Time before last, I was delayed in Ipswich, missed my lunch and tried a standard pasty from "West Cornwall Pasty Co".  Nothing to write home about for £2.

Last time, I got a 50p pasty from Aldi.  Smashing!

Haven't been to Cornwall since 1954, and my mum would never have let us eat a pasty - "You never know what sort of rubbish they put in them".  A few years later, mum and dad went into the pub business.  Mum was a brilliant cook, and people came from miles around for her pasties.

I know exactly what she put in them... :) :) :)

Pasties are lovely.

BUT!

Anyone here tried a Killie Pie? Or a Dundee Pie?

Yummy!

I'll take a Killie pie over a pasty any day!

I was thinking that Jimbob`s favourite might perhaps be baked beans and brussels sprout pasties. ;D
