My sentiments entirely...
« on: 25 August 2009, 00:44:19 »

"From a week today I shall be a marked man. An outlaw. A renegade, beyond the reach of polite society...

...You risk sounding like Charlton Heston saying he won't give up his .44 Magnum until they prise it from his cold, dead hands, but you must banish all negative thoughts. You're going into battle against a repressive government and a fascist diktat from Europe, and taking this rebellious stance won't be easy. But it's something a man's gotta do. From next Tuesday.

Didn't I mention what it was? Sorry. It's light bulbs. As of 1 September, that's it for light bulbs. Finito. It's Goodnight Vienna for old-fashioned, Osram 40-watt or 60-watt, I've-just-had-a-good-idea light bulbs, the ones shaped like Philip Larkin's head. Also the incandescent 100-watt ones that floodlight your kitchen. They've all been banned by European law, and nobody will be allowed to make them, import them or sell them in British shops after next Tuesday – from which day I'll be stockpiling them like Fagin under the floorboards of my home"

Great article!  :y :y

I shall be hoarding them too. The so called 'energy effcient' ones give me headaches.

I no longer have the words to describe how I feel about this country and its government. Angry doesn't even cut it

Didn't mean to tread on your toes, Vamps, I just like the way the article was written (and surprisingly in The Indy!)

Low energy bulbs are damn all use in certain areas - i.e. downstairs loo. Gets a few minutes' use per day (unless I've been on the curry!) has to work immediately when switched on (again, sometimes the requirement is more immediate than others!).

Low energy bulbs don't like being cycled on and off, take ages to reach maximum output and the energy consumption of a rarely-used light is irrelevant compared to other items in the house.

If they wanted to make a difference why didn't they ban tumble driers instead?

I haven't even mentioned that the light is of a much poorer quality than that from an incandescent bulb, that they are hazardous to dispose of (as opposed to a bit of glass and a bit of metal) and the interference that low energy bulbs cause to me as a radio amateur. >:(

Still, this is what happens when politicians take over control from people who actually know their subject. They learnt all they know from reading the packet of a low energy bulb!

Well, it looks like its not as bad as thought....

its only 'pearl' bulbs going, the clear I use are ok (for the moment)

even so, I have a good 10 years worth in stock.

now to find the exact wording of whats happening....
