So, in the Optimist/Bannjaax world, if you happen to have been born into a monied and titled family, you would be banned from serving in government or having an opinion as to the way the economic situation should be handled.

Just pathetic class hatred. Graphically illustrated by the unnecessary use of his rare middle name, as if that makes him a worse person.

I don't happen to agree with all his ideas on the economy, but this sort of attack on his background is just odious.   >:( >:( >:(

Thank you for your kind supportive words Nickbat. ::)
We need intelligent.....articulate......and erudite individuals to form the next government...
such people can be found in our state schools and universities.....normal people. ;) ;)
The very idea .....that in 2009 we need to get 75%(if we get as seems likely a Conservative government) of our front bench politicians from some insular ......outdated ........institution such as Eton(where it is still 1957).....is quite frankly laughable.
We live in a diverse ....ever changing society......Our government needs to reflect this. :y :y

Now look what you have started Bannjaxx!!!!!!!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

Now I wouldn't of dream't of doing such a controversial thread!! ::) ::) ::)

So .. before he even speaks you have already decided on your course of action ???

Seems to show where and what you stand for IMHO  ... :)

How about a complete break from tradition .. ??

Actually listen to, inwardly digest, amd above all THINK about what he actually says .. rather than repeating edited TV/Newspaper pap ??? .... or would that be too much to ask .... some degree of independent thought and analysis ????

interesting theory....i haven't had a chance to look at a paper today tho  :-/

i'm sure DC will say all the right things - but theres appears to be some priority with getting cheap and easy votes by targetting society's poorest (and typically non-voters), while gently warning their mates in the city to behave - or we'll nudge up a tax on them (which any half decent corporate accountant would avoid anyway) but i'll wait on old worm-face and see how much his snake oil costs  :y

"...a drink that costs equivalent to what some folks may be expected to live on for two weeks."

Were you Marie Antoinette.....in a previous life .....by any chance Lizzie...........Let them eat cake. :D :D ;D ;D

Oh yes indeed, although actually I never said that in my previous life; it was all a propanda 'lie', which was probably put out and about by the British!! ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D ;) ;)

his rare middle name "Gideon" was actually his first name which he dropped before seeking election as he felt (rightly) that a "George" would garner more votes than a "Gideon"

its not the name, its the fact that these old etonians are desperately falling over themselves to mask their privileged past to get into power. the glorious exception is Boris Johnson who doesn't try to hide his roots, is witty, intelligent, honest and very engaging!  :y

His politics may be suspect and he might, indeed, be a pillock --- but being born to money isn't his fault, not is being from a titled family.  Incidentally the two do not always go together !!!!

Bottom line is that politicians of all colours will be lying through their teeth, trying to say what they hope we want to hear and delivering b. all if elected  >:( :(

put politics aside Zulu - you're a decent, intelligent, compassionate person in my view...now - doesn't it grate just a little that these landed gentry who've never had to work a day in their lives if they didn't want to have the temerity to take money off someone who gets a few quid a week on benefits (so what if some are cheating - the amount they steal wouldn't make a dent in what we gave to the banks)? pay freezes for civil servants?

that doesn't grate - just a little? you think any of these old etonians have worried about a bill dropping through the letter box?
