That will teach me for being lazy
« on: 08 October 2009, 14:58:16 »

First time in ages i let a 'garage' do a job they stuff it up. I took to a place in town, family run business not the usual guy i use for odd jobs. Mother tunnie uses them all the time but no more!

Last time they 'serviced' her Elite the oil was not changed but billed for.  >:(

This time had track rod end replaced for MOT, driving it home the steering wheel is a full quarter turn to the right driving in a straight line  >:( >:(

Took it back, asked if it was driven after the work, they said no. I gave them the WIM sheet saying i want it set to that, they said they could not.  >:(

He said the passenger side was not adjustable, and he wanted to know who did it last.

Showed him the sheet, and told him i was present when it was quite easily adjusted (needed a little heat) but no trouble for the WIM boys.

Not Happy.

Luckily got a late appointment at WIM tomorrow to sort out what the garage oppsed up fitted.

Whole car now creaks, and cracks on full lock, bloody idiots!

That's ridiculous, Tunnie!  >:(

How much money, if any, did you have to cough up for the fiasco?  :o

really angry about it, now as Kevin pointed out it should only affect the toe setting. So i am taking it back, and asking for the drivers side which they replaced to be set to the WIM sheet.

back....

Their continued incompetence annoys me, they said the camber / toe could not have been adjusted for 'years' as its 'welded up'

The were unable to understand that just a few months ago it had been done, they kept complaining that it could not be adjusted as the upper section was welded.

So i continued saying you have replaced the lower track rod end yes? You replaced only this part? Nothing else as it was 'welded' in your terms?

So why can't you adjust it back to what it was before? Again they continued that both parts need to be adjusted. But as i pointed out they only altered the lower setting  >:(

After a while the agreed to take another look.

Can't wait to get i back to WIM, it currently feels awful to drive  :'(

They should only have needed to adjust the side where they replaced the ball joint! Alarm bells should be ringing if they are having to adjust the other side.

...Assuming they have the first clue how a car works, of course.  >:(

I wouldn't take it to WIM until they've at least had an attempt to properly set it. If the toe's bad enough to make it drive odd it will scrub the tyres like mad if driven that far IME.

What are they using to adjust it?

Just goes to show, you can't trust the motor trade with anything these days.

Not sure what they are using, 'they have their own machine'

I only want to get the alignment close to what i was before, its miles out at the moment.

Got to go there myself in the morning.

back, and its all sorted... ish!

It now drives much better, its back to around 80% as good as it was before at a guess. Still does not feel quite right, but at least the wheel is roughly centre!

Looking forward to a WIM tune up  8-)

Wheels in Motion - Geometry / Alignment specialists.

I was there getting tyres yesterday, they had an Aston Marton DB9 V12 having the treatment  8-)
