windows 7..
« on: 13 October 2009, 20:12:58 »

finally today I had the chance to use windows 7 on my test machine..

tested sql 2005 and visual studio 6 software on it..

although win 7 tells that it does not like them and will have problems  :-? , worked very well together.. :)

no problems with old ado connections..

only important point was to execute the programs with admin privileges.. no problems with dlls also..

and I also like its new event viewer.. very detailed..

performance was much better.. and many extra's.. :y

and I must add also, it was not necessary to supply a driver for scsi card or any other thing for install..

Just because the OS provides a default driver, it doesn't automatically follow that it is the best one for the job.

Have experienced a few issues with wireless drivers, but otherwise is excellent. Runs well on old hardware

I can't get Visual Studio 6 to work properly under it, even in XP compatibility mode.  It seems to corrupt filenames of source files  :'(

Hmm. will have to bear that in mind. Not that I've got any projects that still use it, of course. ::)

.. and not that we've migrated beyond Win 2K yet. :-X

I also had problems opening the project first .. but I found the reason to be IDE exe has to be given admin rights..

looking from the net I see they dont support some ocx components.. but those are rarely used I think..

Only got 2 reasonably sized projects still using VB6 - both do some 'naughty' things unsupported in VS.Net

Yeah, needs a few tweaks to get it to go, but can't get around this corruption of source filenames,

Tend to run XP in a VM now when I need to modify old code

My old SB Live didn't work any slower when it first encountered the XP driver, the only problem was that half the features didn't work properly until the SB driver was installed.
