...making myself super visible when I cycle.
Part of getting fit and ready for next year's triathlon I am cycling to work. It's only a couple of miles but I make sure I beast myself.
Having lost my brother 19 years ago while he was riding his bike I am super safety conscious on the road. It was about 1730 so just turning on daylight so I had my high vis vest on along with high intensity flashing rear LED and super bright flashing front light (and the helmet of course)
I cycle defensively albeit fast and I know when to assert my position on the road and when to sit back and wait. I follow all rules of the road, and when I mean all I mean all yet my commute is only 2 mins longer than in a car! Of course there are the health benefits but also the environmental, financial, etc.
Approaching a junction at about 18mph I signal boldly I am turning left, I check behind to make sure I have been seen, I make eye contact with cars waiting at the junction. The on-coming car turning right however either does not see me or decides to go anyways causing me to brake and swerve.
Lets not forget I was knocked off a few weeks ago.... why the break do I bother? Should I sit about getting fattter, paying through the nose and contributing to congestion? It's not like I am a rogue cyclist causing mayhem! Sometimes I just want to grab drivers out of their seats and bash 7 bells out of them!
