Colditz-On-Soar!!
« on: 16 October 2009, 12:41:01 »

Drove past Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station (A453 south of Nottingham) last night and due to the tree huggers pending 'invasion' of the site, it looks like bloody Colditz!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/nottinghamshire/8310410.stm

Extra fencing, razor wire the, manned stations, the lot!

Best of it is, its turned off at the moment (has hardly been on laod for months now!)

Protesters want coal fired power stations closed down in favour of more environmentally-friendly options.

Like going back to living in trees, presumably?  ;D

imho, just one sign needed.

MOD weapon test zone, trespassers may be shot

few armed blokes inside testing weapons along the perimeter.

not their fault if people jump in the way of bullets.

Or, if you really want to wind them up:

MOD nuclear weapon test zone, trespassers may be shot irradiated.

Its hilarious as its been off line for months due to the big fall in demand anyway.....so what they going to do, shut down an already shut down power station!

I would happily volunteer to keep driving a loco around the perimeter merry go round track at speed for them  ::)

or a different sign...

This is a storage area for power station fuel.
Anyone / thing found here will assumed to be fuel, and fed into the power station accordingly.

Not a bad idea actually. Now, every plan needs an environmental impact assessment, so does a nut-muncher generate more CO2 emissions when burnt as fuel as opposed to continuing a life of driving from protest to protest in a battered old 2CV....? :-/

A newly released scientific study published by MIT climate scientist Richard Lindzen has the potential of destroying one of the fundamental underpinnings of global warming theorists.  The study collected 15-years of long wave radiation measurements from a satellite orbiting the earth.  The study correlates the change in the earth’s surface temperature with the change in outgoing long wave radiation.  Lindzen’s study shows that as the earth warms, the amount of radiation being bounced-back into outer space actually increases.  This is exactly the opposite result that is assumed to occur in the UN climate models.   The UN models predict that more radiation is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere as the temperature rises.  Lindzen’s findings blow a hole a mile-wide in the arguments used by global warming evangelists.

But then it's not about science is it? It's a religion now. Closing down power stations is completely absurd. Mind you, as someone pointed out, if one of these greenie's children needed urgent medical attention, would they prefer to have the child  treated in a hospital run by windmills or one powered by conventional power?

"Police say they are facing mass disorder as hundreds of climate change protesters try to break into one of Britain's biggest coal-fired power stations.

Some officers have been attacked in minor skirmishes, Nottingham Police said.

Activists say they are determined to enter the plant and close it down, disrupting power supplies to millions of people."
