ROYAL MAIL = JOKE !!!
« on: 21 November 2009, 09:24:52 »

Hi all

Sent a new mobile (£10 Samsung E1120 from Asda, very nice for the money!!) to my eldest lad over in Caernarfon, North Wales last Wednesday 11th November.....

Sent it Recorded 1st Class.....

Should have arrived on the 12th-14th November, but only turned up yesterday so went onto the Royal Mail website to check if I can claim compensation for the delayed delivery.....

Good news is.......YES I can claim compensation.....

Bad news is......compensation means 6 x 1st Class stamps.....

Are these muppets for real......???

Its not even worth writing the claim form out if all i get is 6 stamps for it......and like I trust them enough to use the stamps anyway......

Grrrrr.........

Phone them and advise it was a time critical post delivery which is why you sent it recorded delivery, they will give you more than 6 stamps ;)

and they will say you should have used special delivery....

annoying serive, if you wanted good come back / better service, you have to pay a lot more for it.

We monitor all of our outgoing mail --- and claim for all delays and not signed for ( we always pay for recorded delivery - yet half the time get no signature of receipt!). Every month we send of a several page long claim form -- usually get £50 - £60 back  :)

Granted, it is a pain to do -- and they make it harder by asking us to do their job for them. But, hey, they owes us the money, we will get it back !!!!

As well as the money we get regular books of stamps sent to us -- last count I have:

19 x 12 1st = 228
2 x 6 1st = 12
10 x 4 large packet 1st = 40
1 x 4 large packet 2nd = 4

So 284 stamps ... over 100 quids worth !

No wonder RM is going down the pan !

They usually say wait over 15 days (i think it is) before you can register a claim/compensation. That of course gives it time to arrive.
I know it's shoddy service but then that's what you're going to get now, and it won't get any better.
We went on strike for a better service and to stop office closures/job losses and that won't work, only one one winner there.
Yes I work for RM for my sins, don't blame me for delaying the mail, I only sort the stuff, and the guys that do deliver do a great job. It's the idiots in charge that have ruined what was once a great service, progress I think they call it.
I'm after early retirement, can't wait to get my hands on my pension before that disappears.

This is so often the case in many industries ... quite often the result of blind "target chasing" whereby the target (not always condusive to a good job) is the aim and the real job goes hang!!!

For instance ... bins. Once upon a time the bin men used to amble along and empty the bins, making sure they were empty, putting the lids back on and leaving them back in front of each house .... ok it took a little longer, but the service was great.  Now they have these wheelies and have to empty a given number of wheelies within a given time frame ( target). So the wheelies are half emptied, rubbish spilt on the street in haste is left there and the wheelies are left all over the place!!!!  B. all service, but they did manage to get xx wheelies emptied in the morning!!!!!

Yes they are for real.
They make it quite clear that Recorded Delivery isn't worth crap in the compensation stakes if something goes wrong, and that if it has to absolutely be there, etc...then Special Delivery is what you need to pay for.

I was informed KW at point of sale that 1st class recorded went "normal" first class but got a signature at the end.....

I was informed that it would be delivered in 1-3 working days at point of sale, a promise which was not kept....as it arrived yesterday and was posted the Wednesday in the week before, therefore there was a service failure......

That is all I wanted, a reasonable delivery timespan and a signature at the other end....

They couldnt even complete that, why would I want to give them more money for Special Delivery so they can break that up too.....???!?!?!?

And MickAP, I take your point mate and agree its a system and procedure problem here and not the fault of one particular member of staff......

I will ring them Monday and see what they say..... :y

They never f**k up Special Delivery Webby, probably because the absolute minimum is £250 to the customer if it goes wrong, and if you pay the extra few quid at point of sale then you can claim up to £2,500 if they norse it up.

Where did you pull £250 from? You can only claim for postage as per here:

http://ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/public/cmwalk/doc/active/doc2600003/Special%20Delivery%20t%27s%20and%20c%27s.pdf

You can claim for contents, but only if you purchased cover for that.

£250 is the standard amount of cover you get for loss or damage.
