I watched a documentry a few years back about Lennon on the Anniversary of his death.
I instantly became a fan of his.
I thought "HOW?" was a brilliant tune :y

as for McCartney be it if you think he is good or not he must have more money than you can shake a stick at :o

I agree with Victor Lewis-Smith that "The Beatles are dying in the wrong order" cruel but true  ::)

Leave the poor chap alone!

He was a great man in his time, and, OK he hasn't done a lot lately, but we all owe him a great debt of gratitude.

Without him and his crew, we'd still be listening to

Absolutely right Jereboam!! :y :y :y :y :y :y :y

Leave all the Beatles alone, especially Paul, who I always would loved to have known married!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

He was always the most attractive of the four, although John did something for me as well!  The Beatles I grew up with.  They created the soundtrack of my young days, and are still the only group I really do rate.  Every one of their songs were winners, and they developed their music so well that they dictated the pop charts from 1963 to 1970, and beyond in the form of other musicians works, where they live on to this day :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

LOve, love, love :-* :-* :-* :-* 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

[size=24]Beatles Forever!!

I hate it when any show he's ever on ends with 'Hey Jude' with all the participants singing and trying to get in the shot etc etc. It's just like a back-slapping and showing off parade

I completely agree with your sentiments about the Beatles Lizzy, but it must have been the chemistry between them that made them so great. It is one of lifes great mysterys to me how Mcartney could have been that great in the band and so embarressingly awful as soon as he left.
I cant think of one great song he has written since, and as a person imo he comes across as a total pillock tbh.I thought him and Heather Mills deserved each other.Equally insincere.
George Harrison on the other hand, although the 2 big players tried to keep him in a minor role, he was the one who was having his songs performed by Elvis and Sinatra by the time the band finished and imo his solo work was far superior to anything any of the others did. ;)

All the great talents of The Travelling Wilburys wanted Harrison, not MaCartney.

The Lennon / McCartney partnership was magic, and it is true that after the Beatles went their separate ways Paul was never the same somehow.

However, with his / Lennon's tremendous catalogue of joint work, with Paul composing classics like Yesterday, Michelle, When I'm Sixty-Four, Lovely Rita, Hey Jude, Let It Be, let alone all other songs that where more romantic and in ballard form, whilst Lennon concentrated on the 'rockie' compositions, how can anyone dare now to belittle his work now he is an OAP??!!

The Beatles where a tremendous combination of exceptional talent that together produced revolutionary music. They were so talented as a group, and as individuals, that it was inevitable they would break up and go their separate talented ways.

However, without Paul, and, admittedly, each of the other three, they would not have been what they were.  Paul was a tremendous 'soft' influence on their music and lyrics, with John in particular sharing this combination of composing talent that together produced multiple classics, that I suggest has never been bettered..

George was properly credited  for producing those 'individual' special 'hits' such as I need You, Think For Yourself, If I Needed Somebody, Taxman, I Want To Tell You, Within, Without You, Blue Jay Way, The Inner Light, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Piggies, Savoy Truffle, Only a Northern Song, Something, Here Comes The Sun, and I. Me Mine

In summary though it was that magic of Paul and Lennon that made the Beatles who they all were.  Paul was as talented as John, and if there is one song that he can rest his laurels on it is Yesterday, a McCartney composition that has been recored by numerous leading artists, old and current, and is believed to be played every minute somewhere around the world.  You and I could happily live on the royalties of that one Beatle song alone.

I might be alone in never having liked the Beatles (or indeed, any of their work).......over-rated and over-exposed!
Sorry to McCartney/Fab-Four fans; just MHO. :P

Debs, you are not alone!

I prefer Beatallica  :y
