Over Sensitive Touchpad (and the buddy list)
« on: 18 December 2009, 17:37:25 »

The touch pad on my laptop is a bit sensitive, quite often I find that I have clicked something (with unintended consequences) while trying to scroll.

20 minutes ago I accidently clicked "add to buddy list" and I now have someone in my buddy list and I cannot remove them. The Yabb help says:

Buddy List
The Buddy List section of the profile gives you the ability to add other members that your frequently contact to a list that will show in your User CP view. Your Buddy List will display each name, their Online/Offline status, and link options to send the user a PM, an e-Mail, or visit the link to their website.

    * Add users to your Buddy List by clicking on the link below the Buddy List display box.
    * Delete users from your Buddy List by double-clicking on their user name inside the Buddy List display box.

Double clicking the persons name in the buddy list in my "User CP" behaves just the same as single click and opens their profile  :-/

Just send whoever it is a PM telling him/her he/she is now your buddy. But I know what you mean, sometimes you can hover over a click button and it will just go through. An external mouse is a lot safer in that respect.

I think you are trying to remove them using the 1st Usercp panel?

what you need to do is:
Usercp
profile
buddy list
confirm password
you are now at a list you can double click on to remove  :y

Save changes

Job done  8-)

I know what you mean! One of my old laptops, the
one I bought from Moses  :), wouldn't pull the skin
off a rice pudding. So I loaded it with Xubuntu,( it's
that feeble it wouldn't even load Ubuntu), to give it a
new lease of life and let me play with another OS.
The mousepad is that sensitive under this new OS I
daren't go on my sharetrading sites or Egay with it.
I'd probably end up buying a squillion RBS shares or
the Forth Road Bridge.  ;D

You only need to breathe on it and it 'Clicks' the
nearest link. It's like a magical mystery tour every
time I move the mouse across the screen, I never
know what's going to pop up or where it's going to
take me.

I've tried going into the system and adjusting various
settings but it doesn't seem to do very much.  :(

Not to worry, it whizzes round the Net on a cut-down
browser called Epiphany, plays music and makes a
passable word processor; so it's a step-up from
making out like a paperweight.  ;D

I'm running Debian/LTSP on my laptop so (X)Ubuntu is a close relative.

Have you got a synaptics touchpad? I suspect that if I changed some settings in the synaptics section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf I could make it less responsive but I quite like the fact that it is responsive.  ;)
