I was watching
Newsnight last night. They conducted a "scientific experiment" where a "scientist", watched by some Members of the Public, shone a couple of lamps onto two plastic bottles, one of which contained more CO
2 than the other. When the temperature rose higher in that bottle, some of the MoPs were converted to believing in climate change.
What the experiment actually proved was that:
- the average man in the street has no understanding of science or the scientific method
- some "scientists" are prepared to collude with the media in order to hoodwink the public
- people cannot distinguish between climate change and the greenhouse effect, let alone understand the concept of a causal relationship
The saddest part was that a senior scientific advisor to the Government, complete with knighthood, stood there and watched this travesty and then spouted the usual Government climate change disaster line.
I really don't know how serious the increase in atmospheric CO
2 is, and I don't know if it can trigger climate change, and I don't know what the consequences of climate change will be. But I do know bad science I see it, and I do know when my intelligence is being insulted, and I do know when a bunch of fanatics is trying to bully me into seeing things their way. :(
