No sympathy, a 59 plate car and you let the insurance run out, no excuse these days ::) any way how does a 59 plate car run out on 09? unless it was transferred, in that case you get plenty of reminders.... :)

I used to be on the automatic policy renewal thing until Nationwide stopped it. The only problem with that was I only found that the policy hadn't renewed when Churchill couldn't get their money after the policy had expired. But they still write to you, however, you can be assuming that everything has gone through automatically. Have to be careful.

At the end of the day, no car is worth his family and the new little one.

I think there is a moral hers somewhere, maybe like don't own a car that thieves may want.

Would he be able to claim through his house insurance, after all they did break into the house, and the car theft is as a result of that.

That incident has gotta really shake you up, how do you sleep soundly after that!

As for insurance....a fool and his money are soon parted....
He would have been out driving uninsured that day had it not been taken...

He should thank them for stopping him breaking the law  ::)

More money than sense.

The worrying thing is that a soon as cars become unnickable due to better alarms/immobilisers theives will resort to other methods and if its not breaking into your house at night it will be putting a gun at your head at some traffic lights.

You would have thought a car that expensive would have had a tracker fitted :-?

Is it the cynic in me ... but why do I find this a tad "far fetched??"

He changes his car 3 weeks ago ... and one assumes that at that time he contacts his Insurance Company to tell them of the new vehicle. To do that he needs to have his policy number which is on the Insurance Certificate, which has the expiry date on it.

His car is stolen, but the Insurance didn't run out 2 days, 3 days whatever before hand .... it ran out "4 hours" before .. ... now it was stolen at 03:15, and he says the insurance expired 4 hours before ... so it expired at 23:15 ????

AFAIK most Insurance run to either midnight or midday on the expiry date... having checked my certificate mine runs from 16:02 on the start date (time of phone call) to 12:00 on the expiry date.

I also know that I get reams of paper rom all sorts of Insurance companies ... including my renewal quote from the existing one ... in the weeks before it runs out ...  or has he moved house as well ??

Smells very aqautic to me .. :)
