Faith restored in human nature........
« on: 22 December 2009, 12:27:00 »

Driving home from work yesterday evening in horrendous blizzard conditions and had to take a detour across country due to the main A road being blocked.
Very little traction even using the snow button on the gearbox. As the snow got heavier and heavier I started getting very worried as I knew I was going to have to negotiate a steep hill a few miles ahead. Sure enough as I started going up the hill the car started snaking and the rear end kept kicking out to the left taking me closer and closer to the rock wall running up the side of the hill. I eventually couldn't move any further and by now was virtually against the wall. A few vehicles coming up behind me also had to stop and I really thought I was going to have to abandon the car where it was, but was very reluctant to do so as I was miles away from home in the middle of nowhere and the car was in a very precarious position.
Chatted to a few other drivers behind me and no one really knew what to do for the best. One guy in a small truck said he might be able to get up the hill and offered me a lift to the nearest town if he could make it. I said I'd have one more try to move but didn't hold out any hope when 5 teenage lads came along and said they had seen what was happening and offered to help by giving a push. I said it would be difficult as there was no grip, but they said they were prepared and had all put on grippy boots. Anyway, they all got behind and made sure the car didn't slide into the wall as I tried to move and they eventually got me moving and pushed me a good 100 yards up the rest of the hill until I could get going again and eventually made it home.

I can honestly say that without the help of those teenage lads I probably wouldn't have made it home and my only regret is that I couldn't stop and thank them as I would probably have got stuck again, but it just goes to show that there are some good kids out there prepared to help out in times of trouble. I doubt they're likely to be reading this forum but would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. :y :y :y

I have been guilty of lumping all young people into one group. I have also been shown the error of my ways with doing this.

There are some very good younger people out there, more than we think. And just because they dress the way they do does not mean they are all bad.

Glad got got sorted.

How a bout a letter to the local evening paper to thank them. That happens quite a bit round here for such acts.

Good to hear stories like this

Seems the recent bad weather has brought out the best of the British spirit, and its reassuring to know that the majoriry of the public are still good, decent helpful people....

Well done to the teenagers that helped you out......!!!

I hope that you positioned a couple of the youths in such a manner that they would act as human fenders if your miggy headed towards the wall ;D ;)
