If it's not been opened up it may be eligible for a free repair, you can check on xbox.com.

ultimately can only be done properly with proper reflow equipment, but the online bodges may provide a temporary fix

The actual problem is the PCB bends ever so slightly when the box goes back together..and as the GPU is an SMD (Surface Mount Device)...the rest is obvious for those with even a passing interest in the basics of physics.

As you say, online "bodges" hold the problem at bay for a while (quite a while actually)...but the only real fix is to build the bastard properly to start with.

Failed BGA joints....and the route cause is shite MECHANICAL design of the heatsinks
