Happy to sit on another database to be lost?
We are already on 1000's of DB's - Tesco (with or without clubcard) Nectar cards and so on, so the goverment already knows what i buy for lunch, where i go, and when. They know my exact movements in London (Oyster) - So whats one more DB?
What is actually wrong with the passport?
Do we really need a huge book with stamps to take on holiday? Paper license has been updated to plastic, can't see why not passport.
Are you happy to have to inform the IPS (I think) every time, you change your circumstances, or get a large fine?
In reality circumstances don't change that often, things they want to know like address, job, don't change that much. You already have to tell TV people, Gas/Leccy, Council, Bank, Credit cards, whats one more to call?
It will get cancelled - this isn't the war time, it is just nulab control freakery.
It will get pushed through no matter what it costs i feel, many countries in Europe already have such a system.
