wireless connection from sky/dvd to tv
« on: 15 January 2010, 12:28:53 »

A couple of months ago I decided to finish off our main bedroom and at the time we had sky tv in the room. We bought a new tv which I have hung on the wall but before doing this I asked the wife if she still wanted sky tv in the room because I intended to sink the cables into the wall and put the sockets behind the tv, she said no digital would be enough. Guess what, she now wants Sky tv and a dvd player. So is there anything I can buy to save me having to chase the walls out again, replastering and painting :'(

DVD and sky box below will sit on the unit below the TV.

there are some devices that send the signals to a receiver, but youve got that to house as well.

Such a shame, but I would probably go for some of the decorative trunking you can get

As far as I can see, you have two choices:

1) Continue being a wimpy bastard and get your tools out.

2) Tell your missus that you are not going to start the job again just because she changed her mind.

Yes, a spine, tell her straight to sod off.

And let it be a lesson to you, woman are indecisive so never ask them such questions in the future and default to the max install

You can get wireless devices, that send video (most can't do HD) but they still need a scart cable going to the TV  :(

Its not the first time Steve. In the bathroom she wanted a wash basin that stands on a unit so I left the water pipes exposed and tiled behind them because the unit would hide them. She then decided she wanted a wash basin that fixes to the wall with no pedestal >:( I had to smash the tiles off, sink the pipes, retile then fit the new wash basin. It didnt end there, She decided after I fitted the second set of taps she bought for the second wash basin she didn't like them so we had a third set ::)

Apart from the fact that you clearly don't learn ( :D ), when you go to the lengths of sinking cables you should really do more than you need unless you put an oversize conduit in with a draw-cord if necessary.

You don't say what cables you've run already.  If it's RF for Freeview and the tv has an analogue tuner, you can modulate the sky box/dvd as analogue stations and mix them with the aerial feed in the roof or wherever.  Quality will suffer obviously.
