Zebra crossings.  I always say thank you, or nod my head, or acknowledge in some way that a driver has stopped to let me cross. 

Don't think there is anyone in the country under the age of 50 who is even aware of this minor common courtesy.   >:( >:( >:(

If I hold a door for someone and they do not say thanks then as they walk away I say " I think you've dropped something" I carry on as they stand around checking pockets and looking around the floor  ;D ;D

I like that one & will try it. I've found exactly the same thing. You hold the shop door open only to be ignored. I shout "Thankyou" if no responce.
