Just my opinion. Seller should be banned  as it does appear that the car was purchased in good faith and based on seller`s description which, to put it mildly, was misleading >:(

I must have missed something... Description made it out to be pretty good but Di seems to be having into a lot of problems :( :(

At the end of the day, the low temp issue is annoying, but all in all it's only consumable / servicing stuff really

I can see how it's scary to Di, though...

Di, get James to do the cambelt kit and get the rest finished when you get back. ;)

Hate people that state things in the advert then offer no proof of work being completed, shocking. Don't see it as a reason to sell it though, looks a cracker and must be one of the last made, well worth getting it sorted, its a one off cost and you'll know it good for many miles more :y, would bite the bullet and keep it Diane!!
Di, i was in a similar situation with mine - bought it, assured that all of the work had been done, only to find out the timing belt was well overdue. James fixed that up for me, and I ended up suing the seller (successfully) for the belt, but became disheartened at the cost of all the other stuff to be done, and like you, wanted rid..... but I've stuck with it, and it's now turning into a pretty decent motor.... I'd have never been able to sell it for what I paid for it, but now, fingers crossed, the pain has been worth it - hang in there  :y

Coming to all this rather late in the day.  Whats misleading about the add?  Why should the seller be banned?

Ultimately, buying and selling anything, anywhere, the rule remains as 'caveat emptor' - buyer beware.

Diane - its fine stating that you will not reduce your price below what you paid - thats fair enough - but I cannot see anywhere what you actually paid.  Your business (and the sellers), no one else's.  If you are selling, then a full and fair add would go a long way....

My tuppenceworth remains the same.  You bought it after perusing the forum to gain an insight into the marque.  You have asked questions of many, recieved info and advice from a lot, and offers of hands on help from several.  I say you will have the better car for getting it fettled whilst you are away in a hire car to france or, indeed, when you return so you can oversee the work.  The final car you run will be all the better for it....   :y

I am going over this evening to have a thorough look over it - I'm sure it will not all be as bad as it seems  :y

From what I have read there doesn't seem to be that much wrong with it and certainly nothing that would make me sell.

Stick with it :y

Having read some of the posts I don't see anything that is substantially misleading in the ad.  We all know that second hand cars of this age,
a)get bigged up by the seller
b) always need some fettling to get them tiptop.  Presumably the dodgy cambelt document was available at the time of sale,  likewise thin rubber and would have been negotiation points.   The stat is but a 25 quid part given James remarkable offer to fit it.

I personally have no idea what was paid - why not just say how much, rather than make cryptic comments?

Cheers,
Ian

I would say stick with it as well,I am at the bottom end of the market with my estate and at times have been frustrated with it to say the least but there is light at the end of the(very long in my case) tunnel. You have by all accounts got a very nice looking car that I can only dream of and it would be a shame to throw away something that with a little tlc will be worth every penny.Chin up and all that. :y

"i then bought it from him in October 2009.
It has full service stamps up to 74,000 miles. Has just had a genuine GM cam kit fitted. There is no need to do water pump as it does not run off of the cam belt but an auxillory belt and i was advised by Vauhall technition not to change."
If that`s not misleading what else do you call it. The seller has implied new cam kit just fitted, very doubtful with no documentary evidence to support. But as you say "caveat emptor"
