The for sale section should be treated in the same way as ebay or any other means of buying a car - ie buyer beware. If people expect the truth and nothing but the truth because the seller is a forum member then I think they are being naive tbh. And I dont think the admins can police it any more than they do already. Its always going to be a bit of a minefield no matter where you buy a car.

maybe we/OOf should consider ditching the 'For Sale' section .... .it seems to cause more hassle than any other!  ::)  ::) ::)  ::)  ::)

On that, young Andrew, I think you would have the agreement of most, if not all, mods/admins.

OOF is a site for talking 'dangle berries' about omegas and, as a result, the sales section blossomed.

What folks really really need to get their heads around is......

The sales section is really no more than an online e-bay/yellow paper/pistonheads/card in a phone box/insert as appropriate.

If you want to rip an add to bits and give it a new arsehole, do it in the correct place!

There is an overabundance of info on here as to whats good/bad/indifferent so browse, learn, ask questions and then purchase wisely, fully armed in new knowledge after making fine judgement, irrespective of whether you are a newbie or a crusty old goat that would not otherwise see past a Senator Omega....   ;)   :y

Start from this point:

I am thinking of buying an omega. Therefore I must be mentally deficient and deserve to be ripped off.

the trading is always between the buyer and the seller..no less no more..its not the sites responsibility to check every car for sale..

if the buyer/seller asks help there will be many members ready to help.. but at the end of day its their responsibility..

and if you buy a car that needs some extra repair (as is the usual case) , whats wrong with it..

Aren't we all losing a bit of perspective here?

As I've read it, it's not as if the car has been found to be a ringer or something.

State of the tyres and bonnet catch should have been found during inspection and negotiation before purchase. It's unfortunate that Di didn't pick them up but we've all missed the obvious when buying a car - once, at least.

That leaves a thermostat and a cam belt history not necessarily trusted. Thermostat failure is not unknown on this engine and I (in common with many on this forum, I suspect) wouldn't trust cam belt history on a V6 anyway. I'd get it done for peace of mind. I'm sure many are sold without a genuine cam belt history or where the full kit hasn't been replaced, etc.

On the whole, I don't believe I'd be too unhappy if I'd bought this car - unless I've missed something?  :-/
