I feel that some of the louder composers of years ago would have been involved in rock music if they were around today.

There are quite a few parallels - eg premium on musicianship

Kinda agree, but not many "Old Skool Doods" such as Beet Oven, Bark and Ripme Corsetsov used 4/4, 8/4 16/4 or 32/4 time signatures much!

Maybe Jazz is a better comparison, as it's more syncopated and "unruly" (the very defintion of Jazz, I guess) and played by very talented musicians. ;)

As much as I love rock and metal, I have to doff my cap to Jazz musos. 8-)
