Need some advice
« on: 25 March 2010, 11:00:56 »

Just had a call about my 2.2DTi from a foreign chap (sounds Eastern European) who wants to transfer money to my account and collect the car on a wagon, alarm bells are ringing, should I be concerned?

I did a similar transaction with a saab a few years back. Guy was in Somerset and paid the money into my account and sent a driver to collect it on the back of a truck. Is your buyer UK based? If the money is transferred in from a British bank account, I don't really see a problem.

Give your bank a ring and ask them for info.

I am dubious. But I sold an E class merc a few years ago on a 51 plate and they put the money in my bank and collected it on a trailer about 4 days later, but I sold it to the Merc garage where I bought it from and it was serviced on the dot by them since I bought it new. But for someone I do not know, NO WAY. IF you have a doubt PULL OUT is the saying  :y :y :y :y

Personally I wouldn't chance it. I wouldn't do it, if it were one of my vehicles unless it's someone I know, or someone I can contact easily.
Discharging liability- That's the biggest thing you must consider, your liable for that vehicle until the DVLA are instructed it is no longer in your posession. If someone comes to pick it up on a truck and the actual purchaser isn't present how can you be sure he sognes the V5C and it is completed properly. The driver isn't going to sign the V5C, you must cover yourself at all times.
Any vehicle I sell comes with a bill of sale, with date/time of transaction and many other details. Both myself and the purchaser sign so I can discharge my liability. If the vehicle was used for illegal activity it would still be registered in your name, but a bill of sale that clearly shows, when, where and to whom the vehicle was released would be enough to cover you.

Good move Pete, possibly a scam to get your details.  I agree with JB and the others.
