Taking a break from the forum....
« on: 11 April 2010, 15:46:33 »

I'm actually going to log off and take a break from the forum for a while I think! Following on from a few recent issues lately including:-

The attitude of a couple of longer standing members, including one who feels it's appropriate to tell another lower post count member to "p*** off" several times.

The full circle of vultures hovering over a newly ex-member who was certain of their opinion and spoke their mind.

This is first and foremost a car forum. I try my best to help out where I can but this is just not what this place should be about and quite frankly I don't need it. This is no reflection on the admins at all, it's merely a minority of members acting as if they are in charge and never wrong.

I'll still pop on and check my PM's but that's it for a while. Members such as Josh, cruisetopoland, NickV6 and MarkMV6 know how to get hold of me if you are desperate.

Be back soon hopefully!

P.S. TB I'll get the last 3 calendars and the postage receipts out to you in a jiffy bag tomorrow :y

Yes, I did tell him to piss off several times, why did I though because he was calling this place rubbish. I'll refrain from saying anything like it again then as it obviously offends people.

Do come back soon though Lee the post wasn't meant to offend anyone at all but, it annoyed me the way he was saying everyone was no help after just a couple hours of waiting.

Sorry you feel that way on a number of levels. Firstly I have benefited from your expertise despite never having exchanged PM's or meeting face to face. That being the case so have many other members. Just one example has been using any of your posts to find the paperclip link!! Secondly that the generally friendly banter has degenerated to a point that has got to you.

Hope you are back soon

Unfortunately, I can see several people following Lee's route ... there is a certain antagonism and a lack of "politeness" - for want of a better word - that has become prevalent. From pure spite at times to foul language ... "masked" or not ... and if you dare to disagree with a point of view .......  :(

I find I "skip" many sections/threads now simply as I'm pretty certain what will be there, whereas I used to read them all .. and if there was an "ignore" facility it would be well used by me !!!

Just my views on how the forum has changed ... and not for the better ... nowt else .. :)

Sad that you feel the need to step away from the forum but, that said, I know the same feeling.....   :-[

The more you become involved in something that interests you then, when it changes in a way that you do not perhaps agree with, it can become a chore to continue.

As said, OOF has evolved exponentially from what it was originally perceived to be and both good and not so good is the result, IMO....

Nostalgia......  Its just not what it used to be.....   ::)

Good luck, and don't be a stranger...   :y

I know exactly how Lee feels.  I have stayed away over the last few months since I felt the forum had become somewhat unwelcoming. Each time I have peeked back for a look see I have discovered the situation getting worse.

Yes, OOF started "life" as an Omega (not car) forum -- then it grew into a community -- something more than a car forum. When exactly this went belly up I cannot say -- but the sense of community has well and truly died . I notice that many of the earlier, active, "community minded" members have fallen silent, some have even left entirely.

I no longer have my Omega, but stayed on here for the company of friends I had made ---- this no longer seems worthwhile, so I, too, shall again fall silent.

I wish you all well in whatever you do and wherever your endeavours take you. Drive safely and may whatever you believe in bring you comfort.

I know some here will deride this last comment ... May your God go with you.

one reason i never get involved in some debates, all it does is cause ill feeling as some people cannot accept other peoples views. and all this does is divide people and that should not happen. if i gave my views on a lot of things that other people have said i would be hounded off of here. i say what i feel but on here its just not possible.

I dont think it has changed all that much to be honest.

There are bound to be things that provoke heated responses, but thats life....

To leave any forum is a personal decision, and those who go will, I am sure, be missed.

But life here will go on........

I can understand this as well. I may be new but i found this forum a bit of a shock till i got used to it. I run my own car forum and have had breaks from it (left things in the other admin capable hands and some damn good Mods) it gets to you sometimes, even when theres no arguing, sometimes its better to have a break from it all. Enjoy your rest and dont stay away too long :y

Agreed on all counts.....  :'(

Have nearly turned my back onthe forum a few times now, after haveing a little chat with one of the ladies who left on here, it was her that convinced me to stay in a round about way.  So as most of you have probably noticed I dont spend a great deal of time posting any more but at least am still here when my mood suits,

It's just a shame that there seems to be  a few members that feel it's allright to go on the attack when someone is haveing a bad time with life.  Sadly having a "Real" life is not that simple, and especially not that simple for some of the ladies.

Ah well, let's hope that Admin dont get pissed off and dump the forum (Because of some of the hassle ) - Then what you gonna with your spare time.
