new for sale proposals?
« on: 10 April 2010, 19:34:59 »

Due to the ammount of slating and piff paff on the posts, would it be unreasonable to have some new rules for the sale section:

List all the details incl mileage cam belt and price,
a photo and brief description, then leave it as a solid item, if someone is interested, the pm you?

Its realy frustrating on here sometimes as someone wants a genuine answer, and others play hide and seek with the facts and informations etc..

I am not pointing at anyone, but thought it might be a nice refreshing idea, to see an advert without an argument, an offensive remark, or a load of stupid remarks about it looking clean, which dont help it sell.

no offence, just trying to air my views to try help the site move forward in a constructive way?

your thoughts bellow, please dont delete admin, its a pretty shared view i feel.

I think there should be a template.  I know it is impossible to implement a 'mandatory' set of fields for sellers to fill in on the forum, but a Sticky Topic with a FOR SALE TEMPLATE.

A nice list of what *should* be in an advert for selling a car with all the details an Omega buyer will need.  Will save all the "How much ticket is left?" questions.

A seller will enter the template thread, COPY > PASTE into their own shiny new thread and fill in all the details for their car.

Anyone trying to sell without the template, the thread gets deleted.  Simples, as the Meerkats would say.

It is a fair comment IMO, these posts do tend to go off at a tangent at times, drawing the interest away from the OP's initial Ad. ;)

Hi
That sounds an eminently sensible idea, I'd go along with that.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

There were cases where all sorts of random chat and critical comments were being posted on 'for sale' threads to the evident frustration of the sellers.

Maybe there should be an option where the OP can lock a thread when they have added all the information?

If someone feels that there is information missing then the OP could add it to the advert.

If someone else wants to post chat or abuse then they can post it in a different section.

as in ABS a sticky topic or for sale template should apply and know one can post replys except admin :y

Afraid I don't agree.

It annoys me when people just join the Forum to sell their cars etc....
This is not ebay or auto trader..... if you ain't happy advertising your items for free on here, then don't.
If you sell shit expect to get some sort of negative response.
Most people do put a picture of their car or whatever they are selling.
If they have not cleaned it, then someone stating the obvious may well help them with a sale.

I agree with Darth... although, a little more structure to the initial "for sale post" would be a good idea.. Some sort of template sounds good...

I think there should be more info than is often posted.

However, on the other hand it drives me mad when people say "id buy it if it were a saloon", or "i prefer them in red".
Hey, it's an Estate or it's actually blue guys - so why make the comments.

IMHO

There was a bit of a discussion on this subject today at the Essex meet. Seems a lot of people get annoyed by people starting longwinded rants about peoples cars and adverts etc when they have no interest in buying the car. I mentioned that iirc H21 did a bit of banging heads on that very matter a while back and that I thought things had improved somewhat.
Looks like I may have spoken too soon. ::) Maybe he should have banged them a bit harder. ;)

Agreed, I particularly like those posts, along with the "If only you were closer" ones........

so, a basic template, with all the information, and leave it at that, with a pic, it gets it seen, and oof members can view them and see if they are interested then i guess.

ITs just frustrating to see adverts without prices and pictures then get told to make an offer, or guess what its worth, and loads of people talking about ah, id have had that if it was an estate etc..

it will be mixed opinions, but its very much like a playground sometimes when it all kicks off, i stay out of it as best i can, i use the main media for my advertising, but as others on here will testify, i reduce the price for OOF members and have supplied a few happy members on here with cut price cars to help them out as enthusiasts.

without the advert on here they wouldnt have got the deal. and someone would have bought the car and put 6 dogs in the boot and thats the end of that clean estate!

Its good to ask questions, but why not pm the buyer?  or limit the replies to constructive ones.

anyhow, up to the owners of the site, and will always be varied opinions with 7000 members or whatever someone said it was, but at least it would make it look more profesional, than an outsider looking at the sale section and seeing a massive thread of spam, arguments and nonsense.

as i say up to the people who run the site, but it seems to let this fascinating site down a lot of the time, thie site is full of handy stuff and we all value it.

No. No. No. I much prefer the threads where everyone joins in and rips the seller to bits. You wouldn't deprive an old man of his entertainment, would you?

Your distaste for the general car buying public(including oof members) is evident in most of your comments. You want to have a brief ad then straight to pm and so avoid answering investigative questions in public on a forum .You regard yourself as doing a favour to oof buyers for `allowing` them the privilege of buying a car from you at a discount! I think i might be sick, you are in it for the money,FULL STOP,and therein lies the motivation for your posts on this thread.
The evidence on this forum shows you to be rude and contemptuous to folk unless there is a sniff of pound notes coming your way.
The moderators recently have `policed` the for sale section and made it quite clear to members not to post on a vehicle for sale unless interested in buying. The section doesn`t need anything else imho.
I certainly dont think it needs  suggestions from a `car trader` on how to appear professional. As you well know Omegas are not an easy car to find buyers for . The `trade` in general don`t want to know them unless they are for nowt especially `ex plod`.For a trader to discover a forum of omega fans such as this and be able to advertise for free is quite amazing and you ought to be more than thankful that this is still the case without resorting to posts on the subject which i feel are patronising and condescending to members, this one anyway.

Noticed that myself a few times, kinda put me off wanting to buy owt from him, plus he doesn't reply to PM's.
Well, not to me anyway..........

But back to topic:

I'm trying to be impartial about this, but have to agree with Guncharmer about a trader finding a free outlet to advertise his wares - not many forums would allow that, there would be some kind of fee involved -  but as Simon said, he does offer a discount to OOF members.
The "If it was a saloon" or "That's too much are you having a laugh?" type comments do not help either the thread or the forum IMHO.
Things tend to kick off and it's more work for the admins, surely?

I think VXON have it right - only replies to the thread if interested in what is for sale and silly, pointless comments are not allowed.
That's what the PM system is for. :y
