average cameras certainly do have work in road-works, and with people on carriageway its a good thing, but over long distance, thats going to be annoying, and booring on the twisties  >:(

Always enjoyed that stretch of road
often floored it overtaking the usual drivers off the ferry

but i thought speed camera`s could only be used at accident black spots the use of gps data to measure over distance is not an accident spot??? :-/ :-/

There is a long long stretch on Roadworks on the A1 in North Yorks, while they build a new motorway. 50mph average speed, set the cruise and go. Actually get from a to b quicker and safer and did a great job for My MPG.... :D :D :D

One ridiculous side-effect of average speed cameras is that if you get held up behind a crawler you are then tempted to recoup the speed you've forfeited knowing you can stay within the average.

Or am I the only human? ::)

If only they would invest the money put into speed cameras into sorting the roads properly, then, perhaps roads would be safer...

Instead, they put darn speed cameras in stupid places blatently to catch speeders..

The thing is, which is more dangerous speeding or tailgating???

I think we all know the answer to that one...

It is about time that speed limits on motorways and dual carraigeways were reviewed and increased according to the capabilities of the modern car...

Why would they want to do that, speed camera's make money, road repairs cost them money. :-X

Don't think so - I believe there are 3 separate sets of road works spaced out over the long long distance - which is covered by the Average speed cameras instead of just the roadwork sections>:(

Beg to differ, but I only go as far South as the Ripon / Thirsk turn off, it's where they are building the new A1(M) North of Dishforth or thereabouts as the North bound slipway is fully closed at Dishforth... :)

Oops! missed the reference to North Yorks - Not sure what section it was - somewhere between the junction with the A66(Scotch Corner) and the A14 at Huntingdon

If that's how it's going to be countrywide I'd rather sell my cars and sit on a bus. And that's saying something. :(
