My own thoughts about caravan accidents are,
1,caused by poorly maintained vans.
2 badly loaded vans.
3 speeding.

Most of the causes of traffic delays after these accidents are from RUBBERNECKERS slowing down to look at the carnage.

Alfie.

..... and others are caused by those who have got to get in front of the caravan at all costs, even if it means the car/caravan then has to brake hard cos they've just been cut up.

The closest I've come to losing it all, was on the M25 last year. For some reason best known to the designer, at various junctions lane 1 becomes the off slip so you've to move over a lane to stay on the motorway. So .... I indicated to move over a lane, and was half way over the line as a prat in an Aston Martin came from the outside lane at a great rate of knots because he wanted off at the next exit. He was then at the side of me causing me to brake hard & move out of the way. He was completely oblivious as I 'gestured' to him as I then went passed him  >:(  >:(  >:(

Worst I've had is a biker passing between me and a truck (as I was overtaking the truck) on a duel carraige way, A1 I think.
I was just looking in my mirror to see if I had cleared the truck, before moving back into the nearside lane.
I was doing 60mph, god knows what he was doing, but it was way above the legal :-? I can say I nearly shite myself just thinking of the outcome had he not made it :-X

I would'nt call myself a serious caravanner, i only have mine for car meets because tenting is a complete faff.
As for middle lane trucks yes i can see how it annoys folk but we're limited to 56mph, some do 54 some do 58, we all are carrying different weights & are on cruise control for hours at a time so are not going to change speed for a car or van that can go as fast as it likes & can use the outside lane. ::)

As a class 2 driver, totally agree with this......remember a truck doing 52-56-58mph is NOT there cos the driver is ambling along, it is flat out at that speed......

and we are only allowed to do 40mph down single carriageway roads, which is bloody slow......

We know. But it does work two ways. Why do wagons pull out to overtake another wagon at the bottom of a hill when they know full well they've not got a cat in hells chance of overtaking it,  and stay with their foot burried in the carpet for mile after mile after mile in the middle lane?
Or when they see lane 1 stop so move over to lane 2 to queue in? I've seen that loads & loads of times.
Or get upset at me & caravan for maintaining my speed (set on cruise) when they set off to overtake on a down hill bit & haven't the legs to complete the overtake ....... they seem to think it's my fault. A couple of times I've slowed down to let them back into lane 1 so I can then overtake them again.  :-?
