CB Radio's
« on: 17 April 2010, 00:42:34 »

Had a Stalker 40 years ago but knackerd it up by unplugging the external speaker before it ever got used, never bothered since.  Plus I think it was the wrong band  ::)

Mate who was round earlier was into them in a big way years ago and I think he is considering one again just for the hell of it.

Anyone got one, whats worth having, as I might get one just for the laugh, but if I do I want a decentish one that would resell fairly easy.

TIA.   :y

1-9 for a rig-check  :D

Sad (according to my maude) - but was a great way of eliminating boredom on long drives when I used to have our old Jeep (with the rig I built into the overhead console)

Does anyone still use CB Radio's these days? lol.  I used to have a few back in t' day, Rotel 220, Amstrad thing, Midland Mini, Rotel 240 and then ended up with a Harrier CBX..  Had a big aerial on the side of my house, managed to get quite a range ;)

Sometimes use them when a bunch of us go to France, easy way to keep in contact as we drive down without having to worry about staying close .. not used for general chat but as a private net .. :)

Still got my Harrier rig up in the attic. I paid full price for it at Dixons only to see that a few weeks later the prices dropped through the floor when people weren't buying them. How annoyed? Very.

I remember sitting in my car on Margate seafront one misty night racheting with some guy over in Essex. he wouldn't believe I was in Margate!

Another occasion I remember getting involved in a missing persons search, at least it got used for something meaningful now and then!

The main problem was - too many wallies thinking it was funny to play music or talk crap over the channels. we only had 40! No sidebands for us!

14 was for "home basers" and kids, 19 was for truckers and mobile cb'ers if I remember correctly.

Still use mine, useful if there are a couple of you, or for advance warnings of traffic holdups/accidents and for advice on alternative routes to avoid them.

Aerials are a little more discrete now, the old long DV27 was a big giveaway to the "buzbies" or home Office!

Anybody ever get done or had your equipment siezed? I used to do a "radio station" playing music on the old AM days on an obscure channel with requests, and had a 9ft base fed diapole on a towbar mount!  got frightened a few times........

Phew, I was a kid back then, had base station and a mobile unit in my Chevette. Was only 17.  ;D
