MOT............the devil's work.
« on: 21 May 2010, 14:23:50 »

Well, its nearly MOT time again. "Meanie" has had new brakes all round, wishbones, tie rods, steering idler, rear shocks, handbrake shoes, HBV, cambelt, aux belt, aux tensioner, oil, filter, etc, 4 tyres, coolant change, exhaust, and rear bushes changed.
Can't be much left thats original!!!   LOL!

What could the devil possibly fail it on this time??

We live in hope, due wednesday AM.

Am totally confident. NOT.

True words, brother!

have checked (or changed) everything I can think of, use my miggy for work, so it has to be uber reliable, and has not let me down (yet) at all. can jump in it and do a 500 mile round trip with complete confidence, and returns 33mpg on a good run, so perfectly happy with it. But, its getting older now, and common sense says it only has a finite life left in it, seeing as its done 151k now,and theoretically could go bang at any time.........trouble is, don't like the facelift miggy quite so much, and the 3.0 was supposed to be better than the 3.2 in a lot of ways, so bought a pre f/l.

I dunno. might HAVE to buy a 3.2 estate elite eventually.
Just want yet another year out of her first.

AH!!!

nice one, boys. will do.

Mr MOT is an older man, and restores old cars, so he MIGHT be a bit sympathetic. There again, he might be an absolute stickler for the rules too.....................

Hell, heads you win, tails you lose.

Mmmmm with u there!  :(

From my experience if its an MOT station that ONLY do mot's then maybe emissions, altho u've replaced the exhaust so hopefully not (once they have their fee its on to the next customer) :y

If its a station attached to a garage then they like to get as much out of u as possible -
1. Radio not on the correct station
2. Seat not in the correct position
3. Incorrect make of fuel used - should be Esso or Shell or Texico etc
That'll be £200 to put right Mr Sixstring!! :D

Same as when u sell the car. Its always a sharp intake of air from the salesman -
Ooh dear its the wrong colour - nipple pink is whats in this year!
If only u had the more expensive alloys i cud offer u £10 more!
No-one really wants a car this size, pity its not smaller!

Lets face it, its a con !!!!!
I could tell you the saga of my Renault Laguna Estate and the MOT man. Had an advisory list, which included exhaust rubbers perished, leaking at 1st joint etc etc. So I put the car in the same garage to do some other work, tyres I think, and said do the other stuff.
Funny how the rubbers did not need doing, no leak,  nor did something else. When asked why, he said all ok  :o So what pillock did my MOT.

Back on to Omega's....is the Low Beam/Fld vision a fail on MOT, cuz mine passed !!!! Also down to tread things on rear tyre !!!!

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago when i took my escort in & it failed amongst other things on 'little or no play on handbrake'
So my mechanic tightened it to the maximum, took it back & hey presto failed again on handbrake which had been loosened so the station could charge me again for a new mot!
When i questioned this, the middle eastern owner said it was tested by another tester, not the original guy so it can't have been tightened & i ended up forking out '2' mot fees  >:( >:(

I strongly agree that 'some' mot stations take the p*ss!!

You are right in what was said earlier....
Have you noticed if you put the car in for MOT at a Tyre and Exhaust centre.....you will ALWAYS get the ole' crap about the exhaust and tyres on last legs!!!!
Years ago some thingy (showing off to his wife and kids), reversed my Senator of the ramp at speed, turned early and ripped the exhaust clean off from the manifold.  >:( >:( >:(
Then the bloke in charge at the time walked into the office and with his back to me said in a loud voice, 'Ah well, it was going to fail on the exhaust anyway. CRAP  >:(
I went ballistic as the car had had a pre MOT check. They finally admitted negligence and replaced the exhaust FOC.
Best bit was...the manager was not there, and all these little men appeared out of the woodwork with hacksaws, and you have never seen an exhaust cut into so many disposable pieces in such a short time.
I contacted Merit Tyre, and they did respond...'quote'..'It was a communication problem' ??????
Did offer me next exhaust half price, and other goodies. Told them to shove it where the sun don't shine !!!  >:(

Had a classic case years ago when i went into Kwik Fit for a ..... puncture!

Ended up having to fork out over ''£600'' (company car) for new exhaust, 4 new tyres, coil springs etc  :o

When i collected the car & asked to see the so called knackered parts they pointed out parts that had 'apparently' come off my car (tyres all look the same as does an exhaust in pieces that cud have come from ANY car!!)

My company never questioned the bill (tossers!) but i hasten to add that i've NEVER used that company again  >:(
