Cross over cable?
Err, no.

Originally moved to a different network, whilst I bodged network switch.  Now back to where it should be, gigabit switch is now fine, albeit running from a car battery ::)

Ah, yes, before you joined....

Hosting Unlimited should actually be called Limited Hosting.  Your site will run like a dog, but if you raise a ticket with them, they just renamed your fiiles to kill your site.  If you happen to tell the truth in their support forums - such as the fact that their support number is a recorded message saying they have no telephone support, they suspend your account, and tell Laidback66 that you call them up (how?) and swear at them.

Good bloody ridance to them  >:(

Plug in the battery charger so the battery doesn't go flat I think is the short term plan.... ;D

Might become the medium term plan as well, but don't tell Laidback :o

OMG what a bunch of cowboys! Thats quite shocking - not the first time I've heard something like that though, just not as extreme...

"Hosting Unlimited = Limited Hosting", sounds like my "Off road Freelander = Spends most of the time off the road, in the garage"

 ;D

So What do you need long term Jamie? Parts or cash to buy a new bit?  With 800 + members at a quid a piece, should be able to raise funds if nesasary, including that special gold lubricant required to do any tricky job properly  ;D

Its not a 'Planet' switch is it? - Those PSU's are about as reliable as a plumbers estimate!

My last job we changed them all to NetGear

Err, no.  And I wouldn't use netgear either.  It was 3Com - I went through a phase of really rating 3Com stuff, until they took their eye off the ball and released that useless all-in-one combined wireless/ADSL router.

Had a CNet gigabit switch before the 3Com. Excellent bit of kit, semi managable (only via serial though), but too damn noisy. As was the Cisco Catalyst I had before, though that was only 100Mb, but had the advantage of the Cat version of IOS, so could do some funky stuff, which I now have to offload to seperate routers.
