Fuel consumption......
« on: 14 June 2010, 00:18:23 »

2.2. v 3.0.  I have read some reports that the 3.0L is better than the 2.2 might make sense given the weight of the car, bigger engine working less.
My commute is 14 miles each way, good A roads and average 10 miles a day running around town for work, I will not do more that 54 miles a week work miles, long story.........just wondering what peeps are getting...... :y

My 3.0 does low 20's around town, but I use the crappy Astra to commute with.  ;)

My 2.2 was getting 23 mpg just doing short 4 mile journeys to work.
Can get a respectable 30-36 on longer journeys

Mick ;)

Thing is, I am giving up my Citroen which averages mid 40's...... :(
On the other hand, as a lease car cost around £8k over 3 years and nothing at the end, or I can buy it for £9300. It is due back on Aug 4th, so time to look around....... :y

our old 2.2 auto got about the same mileage as the 3.0 auto...

when driven the same, as the 2.2 is working a lot harder to do the same.

However, plant your foot in the 3.0, and it can take off, and use much more petrol. so gives much more flexability.

why not go for the 2.5, best of both....

short trips round town, both were getting low 20's, the 3.0 manual easy gets a few more mpg, not that that is a consideration for you.

My 3.0 Elite Estate Auto averages 20 around town. On recent runs from Newcastle to Scarborough and Newcastle to Hartlepool it averaged 27 mpg.
I had a 2.5 manual CDX, that averaged 23 around town and 34 on a motorway run.
Couldn't match the thrill of the 3.0 engine when flat out ::)

I do 65 miles a day to and from work, but all of it is on back-roads across the Northumberland hills ( no traffic )

here's what I get in my various cars :-

Omega 3.0 manual - 28mpg
Omega ex-plod 3.0 auto - 23mpg
Omega 2.6 manual - 26mpg
Holden5.7 Commodore - 28mpg
Mazda MX-5 - 31mpg
Discovery V8 - 16mpg
Bentley Turbo - never checked, but probably less than 10 if driven hard

3.0 Elite V6 AUTO estate, 30 mile round trip to/from work average 25mpg. On a decent run, EASILY over 30, sometimes as much as 33mpg if its a nice motorway only run.
(just recently done Bristol to Liverpool, to Manchester, to Bristol. Just short of 500 miles in one day, 33mpg, still had fuel in the tank when I got home, just on red light for low fuel from brim-full tank.)   Not too shabby!!!

Hi Guys..
I was getting 29 (440 / tank)... seems to have dropped since the air con was fixed !!! now getting 25 (but short runs).. did a run to orkney a few weeks ago got 31 on the way up & 28 on the way back (overnight & "making progress") usually its motorway with cruise & speed cam alerts on (3500rpm) :y "ahem" and i reliably get 28-29

Thats a 98 2.5 auto estate full of tools & old coffee cups...
only ever fuel up at morrisons or tesco (yes im a tightwad!)
work pay 20p/mile & im frightend to do the math as im sure im loosing dosh...

Really should look at LPG (and a newer car) as im doing 50k+ a year

Off to edinburgh tommrow so i'll do a thing & post the results over the weekend...
