The advice given and experience dispensed here saved me the difference between £50 odd for a pair of KYB rear springs and the £375 (plus vat) the dealer wanted to do the same job.
No doubt I will also save a considerable sum when I come to change the climate condenser that has conveniently developed a leak and also have the satisfaction of learning how to do something else of a practical nature.
On a wider point, this was a great question by Chris as the worth of the site and of all those who contribute in one way or another goes far beyond the purposes for which it primarily exists
Being somewhat misanthropic by nature - no, maybe that's a bit strong, extremely intolerant of others is maybe better - I quite naturally keep myself to myself when not working.
Whether this is an informed choice, character flaw or my experiences at the hands (and feet) of those whom I 'serve' I don't know but this site allows me to correspond and inter-relate with others in a way that has been absent hitherto fore. Whist many of you will consider this to be a sad admission, that's the way it is for me.
During the course of my service to the state I've been shot at, bombed, stabbed (twice), targeted for murder, assaulted with all manner of weapons from a plaster cast (attached to a limb) to washing machines dropped from the height of whatever convenient balcony was to hand. I have been spat upon, called a filthy British blank who should 'get the ‘f’ out of our country' by people who hoped that I, and anyone connected to me, would get cancer and die a painful death.
Not that all humanity is like that of course, but such experiences colour the view somewhat: since joining the community however I have the luxury of corresponding with others in an, for the most part, uncomplicated and non-confrontational way whilst getting a laugh and learning new skills.
That's why I treasure my membership here, as one of perhaps many people who don't have the option of associating with others 'down the pub' and whose only realistic contact with people outside the job is with colleagues or those in a similar position, it’s a lifeline to the ordinary.
