How could I work the insurance comapny?
« on: 22 June 2010, 22:58:40 »

Well guys and girls you're a clever bunch, BMW want £1882 for a door seems a bit extreme to me being honest (luckily it's not me paying) and the insurance comapny are mucking me around a bit, finally got them to book it in at BMW next week, but would the insurance company send me a cheque for the repair in the post? If so can you guys help me and tell me how. Purely because I can get an entire M Sport kit painted and fitted on the car for £1200 and it'll look 10x better? And with the rest I can get an M Sport gearknob (have a spare in the garage anyway), M Sport steering wheel and an M Sport leather interior.

Is there anyway they would send me the cheque for the repair or am I just going to have to put up with a new door?

Thanks in advance  :y

I've obviously missed something... What's happened?

Oh... You could try asking the insurance company if you can arrange the repair... No guarantee it'll work but worth a try :y

A bloke in a Lexus RX backed into my car last week (I think or the week before, must get that memory sorted out  ;D) bent the door skin pushed it onto the side impact bar on the door pimpled the door out, some scuffing and a rather large dent in the door now  >:( Anyway took it to BMW who said to me, you're fully entitled to have it in pre-accident condition (e.g no filler in the door), so I opted for a new door at his insurances' expense of £1882, they've been mucking me around and the rest I said above  :y :y

I will defiantely ring them tomorrow and say that  :y

Would this not depend on the invoice raised by BMW for the total cost of the work done and whether it was sent to the insurance company by them direct or via you.

So if the work is estimated at £1900 odd, then surely the invoice would show that, leaving you little room for manoeuvre.

Doubt you will be able to wangle it, as they are only liable for the repair, and rather than pay out and the job isnt donr properly then they tend to allways deal direct.  Plus in effect what I think you are saying is that you want the repair money to repair and upgrade the car yourself.

Sorry to hear that Del.

Like I said... They may not play ball but the worst that can happen is they say no! ;)

And we wonder why insurance is so expensive. You get to have a car done and dusted on the back of peoples policies. Typical Used car salesman. I am sorry for being blunt but when I had a cheque from the social a lot off peeps on here laid into me and I handed it back  and quite rightly so.

Your opinion Di think what you like, yes, I'm a trader everything I sell is fine and above board have no doubt about that, don't call me a typical used car salesman when you don't even know me as a trader nor a person. If they say no they say no, if they say yes, then I'll get the car done simple as.

Above Board getting all those extras, in my eye that is not above board and I doubt that the guy who owns the Lexus would see it that way either when he realises how much his premium will climb next renewal date. Just my opinion.

How will me getting all those extras make the car not above board? How will his insurance premium rise anymore than it would have considering that the insurance company will be paying out exactly the same amount, but they won't have to pay for a courtesy car either will they? If they pay BMW the £1882 + a courtesy car that'll work out more than them just paying me the £1882. As you said though your opinion which you're fully entitled too. I just don't see where you're coming from with his premium rising as it'll rise by the same amount or less due to no courtesy car, as he was in the wrong for hitting a stationary car.

Actually Del mine and others who insure with Admiral will be paying a bit each towatds your BMW as there is no way that the guy that hit you will brunt the whole cost over how ever many years, coz he is entitled to insure with anyone as his renewal is due.

Should this repair cost only £1200? You said so.
Why should the person who damaged your car have to pay for all the M Sport extras? Then you are able to shift the car for a lot more than it is worth right now. Try telling Admiral that you can get it painted and put right for £1200 and can I have a cheque for £1800 so I can upgrade the interior to make me a lot more profit. I think they might let you get away with that. Then again they might not.

Well whichever way you look at it they'll be paying out £1882 either way so if they don't give me the money then they'll pay more for a courtesy car. I'm in a win win situation really, well I'm not as I had a buyer lined up for last week but that was lost due to the car being hit. I'd much rather he hadn't hit it but he did through no fault of my own.
