American Airlines in to Dallas Fort Worth.
« on: 28 June 2010, 13:49:49 »

We're booked to fly in to Dallas Fort Worth in 6 weeks time from Heathrow, flying on straight away thereafter to Reno, Nevada.

Has anyone done this route !  Do we have to collect our luggage from the carosel at DFW and take it to another desk to forward on or is it automatically done.

I have a feeling that because DFW is our entry point to the USA then we have to go through immigration at that point, including our luggage.

Equally, does anyone know if the in flight entertainment is any good.

Any help or "heads up" would be usefull basically.

are you going to Summit Racing whilst in Reno ?

I wholeheartedly recommend a drive North out of Reno up towards Mono lake, too

Hi...I have friends near Carson City so starting off there, then across to San Francisco, down PCH 1 to LA for a week or so, then Aneheim before finishing off in Vegas.

Got a cracking flight deal yesterday, literally an hour before all the airfares went through to roof. Tis crazy what the greedy gits are asking at the moment.

when travelling to the US regards of your nationality you will have to pickup your luggage after immigration.  Then with your luggage you then have to clear customs.  If you are connecting to another flight you then have to check in again.  This is the standard procedure for international flights, domestic is different.  Oh and never ever try and joke with us immigration, !

we flew to Mexico just after 9/11

We stopped at floirda airport on the way back to refuel...

We all had to get off the plane, collect our luggage, go through immigration, give back our luggage and get back on the plane!

what a waste of time and resource!

Yes, thank you.  Sorted the ESTA last night.

The "B" word has been erased from my memory. Wife said it was about time I stopped swearing in any case.  ::) ;) ::)

Oh.......and NEVER try to take dried milk powder into the states...........a friend was detained for two days while his "five pints" were THOROUGHLY examined and sent for analysis!!!

Missed his flight/connection and it cost him extra money.

Bet he wanted a cuppa tea with milk after that..............

Indeed!  My daughter got a bit sarcastic with them when they wanted to find out if she was going to marry the guy she was visiting!

She was left in no doubt that she had sailed close to the wind let's say. ;)

I used to fly to DFW regularly in a previous life - its pretty straightforward TBH.

The only interesting thing to note are the parallel runways, so you are quite often taking off or landing "next to" another plane  :)

Take your ESTA confirmation but afaiaa the immigration have no way of processing/checking this information yet so you will have to do the full visa waiver green form on the flight over.

Last time I went to the States (2 years ago), I just had to visually identify my luggage, and it was taken to my connecting flight.

That was in Newark, connecting to Dallas Fort Worth.

Before 9/11, luggage used to be shipped straight to the connecting flight.  I dont see the point in making you identify it.  Nobody but trusted 'Air Side' staff can get to it after you have checked it in from your departure airport.

But who is to say these "trusted air side" staff can actually be trusted and not infiltrated by terrorists? :-/ :-/

The USA  authorities for one do not trust European 'security' surrounding aircraft loading.  Too many attacks, or attempted attacks on American aircraft have been initiated from Europe, and therefore the US wants a chance to check for themselves all people and their luguage going forward onto their domestic flights. ;) ;)
