Computers to me are the means to an end not the end in themselves.

One littlun 4 months old.  He takes up most of my time at the moment, together with sorting out a prolonged house move from Middlesbrough to Dorset (living with the in-laws for a few weeks!).

Once things had calmed down a bit and we are settled, I hope to:
 - start (badly) playing golf again
 - relocated my trainset from the garage in Middlesbrough to one of the attics in the new place
 - learn how an engine works with a view to maintaining my Omega, when I find one

Other than that I tend to spend too much time at work.

most of us are in the wrong career/jobs

Most of you indicate working with computers or IT and disliking computers.

And heres me in Mobile phone industry and hate the little things with a passion.

Why dont we all just open garages and have our kids pass spanners and make tea  :-/

I work with 'puters.  I wouldn't say I particularly enjoy what I do, or the way I am made to do it.  But I do enjoy working in the team I am currently in, and I do enjoy the pressure and stress of it, esp with the type of servers we look after - its one thing when a NetWare server dies, affecting a few hundred users, but entirely another when a server fault may have implications for millions of users  ::). No wonder my boss panics a bit sometimes with my usual antics (not dissimilar to my antics with this place - for those that don't know, one of the network switches that run this place is running off a car battery since its PSU popped a few days ago)...

Which reminds me, I must charge that battery....

Sounds about right, we had our disaster recovery software kick in today, took down 20 odd mainframes!

Ive had great fun this morning, 4 hour conf call while we fix it.

At least the job is nothing like anything at home, so there is no overlap.
Couldn't say I would stay there if I won the lottery, but it's ok.

nah jimmy, i enjoy my job - you're not alone :D

obviously i have an interest in computers, both personally and as a job. job satisfaction makes work so much more bearable.
also love music (i'm a DJ too!)
electronics - was once a hobby, and aced my electronics exams back when i was at shcool. Still reckon i could solder together some clever devices :D
badminton when i get time, and pumping iron at the gym. although, like bob, im not sure if thats a chore yet.

I don't hate computers... the're OK... and I do enjoy the technical aspects of my job (though not the admin and the sales sides). I just don't consider them a hobby. Pretty much the same as Vauxhall machanics I guess - I'm sure they all like their jobs, but have you ever seen one of them log on to here from home...?

If money wasn't an issue Jock, I'd be restoring old cars for a living.

I did look into it quite seriously a little while ago while I had some money in the bank, but I wasn't convinced I be able to make ends meet, so shelved the idea. Might do something with it on a part time basis in the future though, you never know.

I work with computers, hate them at work but like them at home as at home they tend to work!
I also play the guitar, have an interest in home recording, I like trying to work out how to clean my breathers (still can't...) and working out how on earth I'm going to afford to pay for the house I've just bought (still can't...) and watching the mighty Cherries!

Just a PSU. The gigabit switch itself is OK.  So if you have a spare PSU knocking around.... ::)
