I wonder if that amount of work, and a VOSA reclassification, would lead to a "Q" plate ?? If so I see insurance being a very major problem/expense after the work is complete...

OK, here is the info you require (after a quick phone call to VOSA).

You WILL have to have an engineers report on the car if you do what you propose to it, you WILL have problems insuring it as it will now be a "heavily modified car" officially, you MAY have a "Q" plate issued to it, if it is determined that over 50% of the car is not as VX made it, and the sum of parts i.e.engine, box, and axle is from a donor car, plus all the interior would probably make it over 75% elite 3.0, and only 25% 2.2 original car (bodyshell and tank, brake lines, lights, etc only).

Most insurance companies will not touch it, and you run the risk of any that will classing it as "modified" and charging megabucks for a car that would be cheap if it came out of VX as a 3.0 Elite.

Vx didnt make a 2.2 Elite, so trying to make a 2.2 Elite is going to be very time comsuming, as quite a few of the wiring looms will be missing.
For example, a 2.2 doesnt have the wiring loom for the HID headlights, thats going to tricky to put one in.

I think you'd be better off either buying an Elite V6 or putting in some off the easy toys, like cruise control, auto dipping rear view mirror, etc.

Also if you did manage to make a 2.2, Elite spec, it wouldnt need to be reclassified, it would just be a 2.2 with a lot of extras fitted.
