Read that article yesterday.

They say (Ferrari) that there is no problem with the model, it's just the owners seem to be jinxed.

There's been quite a few go that way recently.

Having owned a 430 Scuderia for a while, I wouldn`t be surprised if a few of those haven`t also gone up in smoke . . .

With the driver and an empty fuel can stood next to them holding a match . .   

Not one of my best purchases, and bloody glad to see the back of it !!

No point, the cars are so poorly built now that the powersounder will outlast the car

Seems a lot of the Italian sports cars are prone.  Hulk Hogans lad was airing a stored lamborghini and took it for a spin through miami

In 2006, in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, Bollea was driving a yellow 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT owned by Cecile Barker (chairman of SoBe Entertainment, the record label attached to his sister) when it caught on fire. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Paul Perry said, "It was a normal car fire. It happens a bunch of times every day and nobody notices."

Also seems a lot of the lambo and ferari range have suffered wierd fires from the pick I have seen on exotic wrecks.

I cant remember the reason for these fires but I believe jeremy Clatkson once commented on it on top gear.

Packaging constraints, I guess. Large Vee engine with red hot manifolds either side, exhausts inside the vehicle structure rather than slung underneath in the airflow. Probably a load of fuel in the side pods. Difficult to get airflow through the engine bay to keep temperatures down as it sits in an aerodynamic "dead zone" behind the cockpit.

Then you've got oil, fuel and brake fluid pipes to route through there along with wiring looms. Something's always going to be prone to burning and there's so much sitting around waiting to catch that once it's taken hold it quickly develops into barbecued Red Fiat.

Could have been, but seem to remember something about winter storage and owners disconecting the batteries, and then when the reconnent they dont tighten the terminals or bolt the battery back properly.  Once connected they just jump start and drive away.

I would be interested to know the cause of these fires, and the theories mentioned are indeed very plauseable.

But do not think for one minute that these are well constructed cars. Sure, the engines are good, the bodyshells are pretty and the interior trim is crafted to the highest standard - but it ends there, the rest of them are virtually held together with nails and gaffer tape. Carpets are pop riveted in, and many panels are so paper thin that if removed they lose their shape completely making reassembly very troublesome.

If you think about the designs that have progressed down from F1, the people that make these cars are used to stripping down a car after every race, and think that an endurance is only 24 hours. They simply do not know how to make a car that will last for more than a few weeks without breaking down. From my own experience, this is not just Ferrari and Lamborghini, but just about every exotica marque that is currently available today, and I am left wondering if anybody now makes a "supercar" that is reliable enough to last - and if you can think of one, please let me know.
