EGR valve blanking plate
« on: 19 December 2006, 22:31:19 »

I now have 1 dozen EGR valve blanking plates, made from 3mm mild steel as photo.

Anyone interested in one of these let me know. After I have posted the first one I may ask for postage to cover my costs.

Because some people remove this valve and blank the manifold off (not the valve as in the picture ::))

While I have never looked into this, I am aware that several people have cut up pop cans and various other tin recepticles to make a blanking plate.

As I have access to a laser cutter, I got the programmer to copy a gaskget I had spare, thus I have a few to dish out.

There is a disscussion on this subject here,

Worthwhile mod.....it does two things:

1) Improves throttle response slightly (no exhaust gases can no get into the system and dilute the fuel/air mix)

2) You never have to worry about a leaking EGR valve again.....

Just a quick one.....are the existing torx bolts long enough to accomodate the blank?

Does any one know if the physical dimensions of a V6 Omega's EGR is the same as that of a 16v 1.6 Astra G? Is an Astra 16v 1.6 basically the same as a 4 pot Omega?
I ask cos a certain 'tamed' Vx service manager has told my wife's Astra that it doesn't now have an EGR valve and it's now been unplugged for the last year or so.

I don't know if its similar to your wife Astra but Vx were modifying a lot of there small 4 pots up to 1800 cc to do away with the egr valve. I beleive there was even a technical bulletin on it, telling the dealers how to do it and reflash ecu with tech 2 to do away with egr software but like i say i don't know if it applies to the 2 ltr up engines :)

No, currently older Omega engines do not have option to remove egr from ecu, hence blanking trick....

So, if the valve is removed and blanked, do you get any fault codes/lights.
also will the car still get through the MOT?

Apparently no fault codes, and this is not MOT tested so no problem there either.

However, not possible on the 2.6/3.2, as they don't have a mechanical EGR valve, instead the EGR function is electronically controlled by the ECU. AFAIK the 2,2 still has a mechanical EGR though.

Ok, so PM is definitely working. All who would llike these plates PM your address and I'll bang them out asap.

I can get as many of these as is needed, as the program is saved at work, so there's no panic
