advice on buying a high mileage Corsa ?
« on: 02 October 2010, 11:34:28 »

I've just seen an 07 1.3CDTi Corsa for £4200. This looks good but the mileage is high 97,000.

What do you guys think ?. do the diesel engine's last, or are we likely to have bits wearing out like the turbo ?. I can't find any obvious faults on google, are there anything to look out for ?.

Also, I am not used to dealing with car dealers, how do you negotiate a good price ?. I need haggling instructions !.

Cheers Ken

Not sure on the engine but the miles are high IMO for a small car has it been used as a pool car or is it ex rental? :-/ :-/

Pretty strong engine TBH, I know a few in Combo vans that are at the 200K mark.

It is high mileage, I would be chcking full service history etc.

Check the gearchange is not aloppy, tyre wear is even, steering feels ok and that the internal cabin temp can be changed ok.

I would guess its done motorway miles given the coverage in a short time

My opinion is that the engine has done 97,000 miles so has everything else, unless it has had a lot of replacement parts,
so as Mark says....give it a really good going over :y

It seems that some are prone to snaping a camshaft, or both. Sounds a bit  :-X

Lol, not the 1.3 CDTi

Some 1.2 and 1.0's with mega poor servicing.

Easy to check these to, just pop the cam cover off, see how filthy it is and torque the cam caps down again.

As another member said - check gear linkage as prone to wear (wife's cost £170 to renew and fit). Also check carpets for damp, especially drivers footwell as known problem with water leaks from around brake servo in this area. In any case with that mileage I think I would give it a miss IMO.

You were robbed, 35 quids worth of bits and 30 mins to fit.

Note that this will be a corsa d so quite a bit different to the c

Just had a look, it is showing the 97K mileage, lots of scratches, small dents, bumps, tyres nearly gone, bumpers both with dents, condensation in headlamps, looks worse than our current corsa.

Thanks for the advice,

Cheers Ken

Mileage or otherwise this one does'nt seem to be "cared for". I'd give it a swerve, plenty to choose from & what with chrimbo coming up sellers will love you. BE FUSSY.
   You'll find better. 8-)

Very strong engine, does the miles really well, I honestly think it's one of the best engines out there.
