just got a quote from my insurers (Bell Direct) to change over to a 3.2 MV6 from my 3.0 Elite...

and additional £116 for the remainder of my policy


and the usual suspects (go compare, compare the meerkat, and confused ) are all quoting similar as lowest prices...   starting at about £450 for crappy cover and no glass cover....   £500 seems to be abut average for the sensible budget covers.... 


Direct line want £742 !!!

Bell direct again as it happened, for my 3.0

quotes for 3.2 £100 more using the usual comparrisons etc

admiral then rang me, who are the same company as bell, i took out their multicar for 1 car, adding another later, far cheaper than bell wanted, and then waived the cancellation fee, so all in all cost me about another £20 iirc.

I use (brokers) http://www.ckinsurance.co.uk/car_insurance.html and they have picked Highway as the insurer on both my cars.  Good premium but can't say too much about claims handling as I haven't pushed them on it.

well, I reckon it pays to shop around whoever you are.  insurance companies increasingly rely on the lazyness of the consumer.  My current insurer ( also known as a bunch of thieves)  cost me £200 last year, they now want £300 - oh and don't worry it is easy, we can renew this automatically.

I shoped around and managed to renew for £200 but I bet next year I'm changing company again.

Have you tried getting a new quote from Bell to see how it compares? My broker told me that some companies treat mid policy changeovers as a windfall, you change and get a high addition or you cancel and get some kind of penalty.

Hey Max i was watching the car you bought but you beat me to it ...... darn it ......... but good on ya as the wife would have shot me!!  but i am with a firm called done deal they quoted me £63 as an adjustment on my policy plus £ 25 admin  but for renewal best i found fully comp with hire car breakdown and glass etc legal assist was £371 with swiftcover  ................ i am 46 but i do live in Norfolk

sorry Robbo.....    but i knew there'd already been at least 2 rejected offers...   and a load of watchers..  i decided to bite  before someone else did...


the seller seems pretty reasonable, they don;t mind if i look and then turn it down....  despite having clicked by it now to get it out from under everyone else's paws...


they have an X plate elite coming in that will be slightly cheaper apparently, so save the seller's details.

i know , i know, anything that seems to good to be true, usually is....     and there's a few things i want t get done...  like the cam belt and so on....  and i'm betting it won;t have nice new tyres on it either...

but it's taxed till november, and mot'd for a year.

hopefully, between Josh's sensible trader head, and my fear of being stuck with 2 expensive paperweights..  we ought to be able to spot if it's a duffer.

for the moment i'm just going to switch my current policy in to it....   and deal with finding better prices at renewal.

the hassle factor, or rather lack of it....   makes it the sensible choice, renewal's not till may...   and it gets me home without having to fork out another £500 or something.

it'll just complicate things when it comes time to move the elite to pete's or Daz's or whatever.... 

or i may give admiral a go....   their quote for the mV6 wasn't outrageous....     £475 ish , +£283 for the elite when it's renewal comes up


still a load of dosh, but would get me 2 cars worth of cover....   maybe.....   multi-miggy-max ought to be a new name ??
