Heat + Balls
« on: 21 October 2010, 15:56:23 »

I knew that'd make you read it!
Here is one to cheer up Nickbat and anyone else who, like me, is really peed off that the nanny state took 100w filament lamps away and we all now have to live in rooms with less light than Dickens used to write in.

Just go to your local electrical wholesaler and ask for "Rough service lamps" they are what are used in lead lamps and machines. Like normal lamps (bulbs to you and me) but harder wearing so they don't blow it they get a knock.

Yes, I saw that! Good marketing, eh? :y :y
I loathe these low energy bulbs, especially in the middle of the night when you need to go downstairs, but don't want to wait for a half-hour before the darn thing gives you any meaningful light. Grr! ;)

We probably caused a world shortage of 100w bulbs last year, as my loft is now stuffed with them!

Tesco 'Value' jobbies are pretty good as soon as they are turned on, and reach their max illumination whilst the Phillips jobbie (on the same light switch) is still only as bright as a birthday cake candle.
Admitedly not as good as 'proper' bulbs (or these new hightech 'Heatballs'), but they're not bad when it comes to giving an instant useable light.
