Prisoners to get the vote
« on: 02 November 2010, 16:42:56 »

Now I have heard everything.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8104190/Prisoners-to-get-vote-the-European-court-ruling-Q-and-A.html Mrs Varche and I tried to think of anything that prisoners don't get and couldn't think of one thing. (Open prisons before anyone says freedom!)

This sort of thing makes my blood really boil. I knew I shouldn't have watched episode1 of "Coppers" last night. What an eye opener that was. Known criminals being arrested repeatedly and clogging up the cells. One guy demanded to be taken to hospital for drugs as he was coming down(as was his right) two cops tied up accompanying him rather than being available to solve or stop crimes. Easy solution . Boot Camp on somewhere like the Isle of Skye. Self sufficient community where the prisoners work for their needs rather than costing us taxpayers £40,000 a year minimum. Three strikes and they should be automatically sent to my boot camp without rights. They forfeited those by repeatedly behaving in an antisocial manner.

Rights my arse. Try telling that to someone needing drugs to extend their life or someone denied due to cost.

World gone mad. And the EU want another 6% to enforce this rubbish.

I vote prisoners, from petty theft to murders, are used as live target practice for the army....

They've got no guns, of course, but I suppose they could tie them to the side of an oil rig and ram them with an aircraft carrier (with no aircraft on). ::)

Sorry, that'd be the Navy I guess. ;)

From what I have read the European court have decreed that it must happen, so the UK "government" have no choice but to introduce it. >:( >:( >:( >:(.......and Cameron had the audacity to refer to this country as a Sovereign state today - when he was explaining why he has just signed a 50 year deal with the French, for joint defence of both countries.
Maybe we should send them the bill for the last time we defended them, and then we could afford to defend ourselves. ;) :D ;D

I thought the whole point of being in prison was having your "rights" removed.

if you ask me some of them shouldnt have the right to breathe never mind vote.

I wish I could jump ship and go live in some other planet.

Jaime...Target practice? even for minor offenders? Bring on the hanging judge. I somehow imagine you've maybe had a scrap, driven home after one too many or something along those lines many years ago when we all did stuff we no longer do? Had you been caught you might 've got a short stretch, they used to dish them out alot more liberally than they do today. I did 2 short sentances for TDA (as it was called then in the early 80's) i deserved it & did'nt complain but i've been a good boy since then & had you have the army shoot me you 'd have missed out on the joy of my company today!! ::)
That said in early 1983 as a 19 year old borstal boy i asked if i could vote & was rightly told no & still feel this is right.
To hell with human rights. I've been on both sides of the coin & if you get yourself locked up then you forego said rights, end of. ::)

I can’t necessarily agree with that Vaux.  The point in sending people to prison - as far as I can see - is to satisfy the forfeit decreed by law as a result of their wrongdoing.

It may surprise some here (in light of my calling) that I'm broadly supportive of this move - although where long-term prisoners are concerned (15yrs+ say) I can't see the sense in it.

In the overall sense however this really isn't the issue - what is, is the inability of our sovereign (for the moment at least) government to prevent such directives being enforced here.

This bears much more scrutiny as we now appear to be subject to laws formulated by a body within a group where we have little say and no direct sanction at the ballot box in cases where we disagree with them.

I think it would actually be quite interesting adding the 100k+ votes of the prison system. Considering how gang members & repeat offenders for drugs money (mostly non-voters) and white supremesists (BNP and the like) are the majority of that figure I think it would make general elections more interesting for the main 3 (read one) part(y)ies.

It could also be said that many of the politicians braying for the vote are that corrupt they should be locked away themselves.
    Redress that balance!!!!! ;D
