Father in law has just bought a 2.2 51 Reg Vectra CDX Estate, nice car.

Only got 1 key with it, and wants a spare.

Got the garage to give us another vectra key they had 'lying around and didnt know what it was for'

So, am I right in thinking I can buy a new blade from Ebay etc, then get it cut to match.
Then present a 'tech2 owner' with car, car pass(being sourced) and the new (old) key, and it can be reprogrammed to the car.
(or do both keys get reprogrammed together?  I know they do on mazda's)

And if we just have a blade cut, what can that do,
Open a door?  I Think yes
Open a deadlocked door?  I Think no
Start Car / Disable Alarm & Immob? I Think no.

If you have the right mechanical key cut, it can lock/unlock/undeadlock doors.

Without a programmed transponder it cannot start car.

Without a programmed remote, it cannot remotely lock/unlock.


To program, the car, the new key (with transponder), new remote, and carpass require a chat with an authorised Tech2.

I'd like to jump in on this one - same subject, slightly diffrent question!

I've just got a new Omega (with the 3 button new type keys). I got 2 keys with it - one in good condition & working - the other the buttons are knackered.

If I get a good condition 2nd hand key, I can swap my blade onto the transponder.

Am I right in saying that the chip is in the "blade" part, so all I would have to do would be to programme the transponder/car?
Am I also right in saying that to programme just the transponder, you don't need Tech2? (the older Omegas could be done by turning on the ignition and operating the key - or something like that?)

The transponder is in the blade part but can be swapped over. You'd have to program the remote part of the key though. A tech2 job.

A better solution would be to pop the circuit board out of the remote and swap the push buttons over with some from another key. That way you don't need to reprogram it.

A few minutes work with a soldering iron.

Thanks for the idea - I hadn't taken the circuit board out - just done it & can see what you mean
