there may be a bit of truth in some off what the mother says. problem is , all kids get to a certain age and you cant pick their friends and who they fall in with, so despite all a parents warnings about sex or drink or drugs and all their best efforts, it is not guaranteed that their offspring will not be tempted to dabble. That said, part of parenting IS to give them a sort of moral compass. It isnt about some wishy-washy liberalism that sets them no rules and fills them with fase hope and (worse?) enables the parents to live their own dreams by proxy. Its also about teaching them the realites of life and how to deal with them. Surely there are more than enough children in our society let down and endangered by bad parenting  whether it be down to ignorance or drug/alchohol abuse without these so called "liberal" parents actively adding to the problem. Sure, all children-indeed all people-should be encouraged to reach their potential , but everyone's potential is different! Sorry to break it to a lot of those X-factor hopefuls but most of you are deluded and I can sing better! Why cant we let children be children anymore? Its not like we are in a third-world or war torn country where by neccessity they have to grow up fast.Must be me getting old again :-[

The mother hasn't taken her responsibilities seriously enough IMHO.  She is out for the quick short-cut.

The likelihood of the daughter making it as a pop star is very slim and she will be left with no self-esteem, no recognisable qualifications and will probably have taken her own life before she's even started it.

Someone's going to blame a social worker as well.  What a mess. :(
