There's no way to record extreme weather events as such for the simple reasons that
a) Accurate weather records (temps, rainfall, windspeed etc) don't go back that far, i.e just a century and a half at best which is nothing in the grand scale of things
b) Recent recording of weather-related "disasters" has been done on the basis of insurance payouts, deaths etc. Given the higher population, urbanisation and the growth of the insurance claims business these have naturally trended higher (though not remarkably so, it must be said). I did have a link but can't find it right now.
And finally,
c) The growth of worldwide media reporting has greatly increased the publication of weather-related incidents, whilst the AGW business has heightened people's fear of "abnormal" weather.
Essentially, the weather we are experiencing has occurred before at various times in our history.
