« on: 19 December 2010, 21:43:07 »

I'm due for an end of contract upgrade soon. I've seen friends handsets & what they can do but i'm as useless with phones as i am the computer so does anyone have an opinion on which is the easiest & least annoying & long winded to use please. I only want to phone, text & mess around with some of the silly apps because i'm childish!!!!

Yes iPhone is expensive, arguably worth it though, although the 3GS is more reasonable.

iPhone, iPhone, iPhone.

I have allways been PAYG but having spent £30 to mobile numbers this month alone I now have to reconsider.

I like the idea of touch screen, and am not againt an Iphone 4, but at £600 they can keep it.

I dont know what contract would suit me best, if any that is.  or whether there are any PAYG deals that may be worth having.  All calls are basically to my girlfriend whose work is mobile, and she is using a lot more PAYG credit than ever before, some even somthing that may be free for one of us to use may be worth while.

But if I need to end up on contract then at least a decent phone would be nice from it.

Sorry to hijack your thread Guy.

Based on usage, how many minutes do you use a month Mr?

300 mins a month can vary from 25 to 35 a month depending on hand set and length of contract, goin by your paygo usage....?

Dont really know.  I ring her for an ETA to cook lunch for example it's less than a minute, but for that BT charge me .19p so straight away theres 30/60 mins a month as there is normally 2 calls as it's easier for me to ring her.  then we have 5/10 min chats probably once a day so yeah, 300 mins is feasable.

I hate texting on phones, but may some net time may be usefull and some basic text allowance.

..but not if the 'phone calls' function is an important feature for you.  ;D ;)

If your current contract is with Orange, speak to them about your 'intended change of provider'.
I got a free HTC Desire with 600 mins (x-net and landlines), unlimited texts and e-mails, and 500mb internet allowance for £17.50 a month.
I've been with Orange for over ten years so 300 of the 600 mins allowance is some kind of 'loyalty bonus'.
The likes of Carphone Warehouse couldn't get anywhere near the 'Direct from Orange' deal. They said for £17.50 a month with the same mins etc they would have to charge me £299 for the phone.
Could have had the Desire HD for £2.50 more a month, but with a 4.3" screen (as 'fab' as that may be) I reckon it would be just that little bit too big for having with me pretty much every time I left the house.
The standard Desire has a 3.7" screen and that's plenty big e'nuff.

In the smart phone end of the market you'll get free unlimited texts and data on that sort of tariff, if wifi enabled you use that at home anyway, so might be able to get a cheaper contract. Trouble is likely to be 18 month minimum term, which is not foe everyone.

If that's 'x-net' mins and not just to another '3' number then that's a pretty good deal. Only problem is that if it's a 'Smartphone' that's required, they're not gonna be going for that money. You can add another zero to the '30-50 quid'.
