Moon Landings
« on: 05 January 2011, 09:01:56 »

It has come to my attention that there is debate over whether or not man has landed on the moon. I'm just curious as to how many people think we never went and it was all somehow a big "conspiracy".

Putting aside the fact that you can fire a laser at a prism placed on the moon by astronauts and it returns, thereby proving we've been (as demonstrated in the hilarious and factual "Big Bang Theory" sitcom) How on earth does anyone think the thousands of people involved have kept quiet for so long?

Just curious as to what the level of skepticism is  :y

Ive read / seen some interesting 'evidence' to suggest otherwise, locations, use of camera for moon shots etc, but yes I beleive they did.

Yes from me, but my brother is definitely a sceptic.

I would like to think that they did, but...

If Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, then who held the camera???

Why did the flag blow in the wind (it can be seen to be moving, ruling out a wire)???

Numerous pictures with some very strange lighting and shadows...

Do you not find it very strange that at the last moment, a problem hit the Radio Telescopes following the mission, leaving the only functional one in Parks Australia at a point when the moon was barely on the Horizon???

Yep....I believe  the crew from Apollo 11 left a sophisticated mirror on the moon in 1969.....Apparently we know from this ( Don't ask me how!!!) that the moon is moving away from the Earth by some 3.8 cm each year..... :y :y :y

In 1969 the former U.S.S.R......would have been watching the Americans like a hawk......Does anyone really believe they would have kept quiet if they suspected foul play?...... ;)

This ^^^^^^^

But what I find saddest of all is just how little we have seemingly evolved technologicly since the late 1960's.

Putting man on the moon was a mamouth feat of engineering and science. The real hero's weren't Niel Armstrong et al, but the 1000's of guys on the ground who actually made it happen.

My next-door neighbour at the time was an astrophysicist and he brought some of the moon dust home in a dinky little container to show us.

Clearly I can't tell if it was genuine but it does indicate how many bright individuals who couldn't be coerced, would have needed to be fooled.

It was a remarkable achievement for the technology of the time and yes, we have evolved an awful lot since then. The problem is, we use our technology only to do profitable (in the short term), environmentally friendly, politically correct things these days. :(

We could do with more "mammouth feats of engineering" carried out simply "because we can". Although there's no bean counter who would approve such projects, I believe the spin-offs of projects like the apollo programme and, equally, our defence in two world wars and the cold war, are what we've been living on until this day.

What will be next?

Perhaps it's OOF's responsibility to start WW3.  We've had plenty of rehearsals. ;D ;D

i remember being totally enthralled as a kid watching it all on telly but i do have to reluctantly admit that some of the arguments that the conspiracy theorists use do look more than plausible-and not just the ones re photos, there are some plausable political points made too eg the need to detract from the debacle of vietnam. still think they did it , though parts could have been staged. :-/
