The New Fibre to the Cabinet service...

Anyone on it yet?

My exchange is meant to be done by the end of the year, and it sounds very tempting

£25 for unlimited (with FUP)  up to 40meg!

I regularly get flyers detaillnig BT and Talk Talk offers which get sent back with big black marker "NOT UNTIL I GET MORE THAN 1MB"

Maybe they will get the message one day, I mean my COD scores are suffering as a result  ::)

It'll be interesting to see what the service is like once it gets some uptake;  if it's more reliable than Virgin with an equally flexible FUP (ISTR the 50Mb service with Virgin has no FUP at all, but I could be wrong) then I'd jump ship.

Although 6MB/s off-peak is quite nice, Virgin tends to drop off badly in my area at peak times to <1Mbit, which is a pretty large 50-fold drop!

I have been offered the service by BT over the phone, but I pay enough to BT for "Total Broadband" Option 3 already, and I begrudge paying them anymore for a service they should already provide to me!! ::) ::)

I told them that, and in my opinion they are becoming more like Sky and Virgin by the day.  Provide a package, then hammer you with any "extras".  Damn cheek if you ask me!! >:( >:(

Have seen some vans installing fibre stuff both around home and work.

Since we moved offices a couple of weeks back I reckon a bit of damp string would have a better SNR that the sh1te line BT have given us. Down to 448Kbps downlink at the moment, 2km from the exchange. :(

I reckon they should concentrate on getting copper right first. [smiley=evil.gif]

Luxury. I live in a third world country. Broadband via 3G at best 1.6meg at worst better to force connection by dial up. All for the equivalent of £39 a month. ;D ;D ;D

And I used to think it was bad in Slough - 2Km from the exchange, nearly 7Km of wire and a ropey 2Mbit connection (that is once they finally removed the distance restrictions; I was stuck on 'HomeHighway' at 64Kbit for years)

I suppose on that basis I should be grateful I can get Virgin where I am now - then again, that was part of the criteria I used for choosing a house  ;D ;D ;D the other criteria was space for a double garage..

To mitigate that V, you do have rather nice weather.

You are probably right James, but I find the speed I have now is more than adequate for my needs. ;) ;)
